Xp Sp1
Sorry, I missed yet another one, folks, but it looks as though our friends at Microsoft have released SP1 of Window XP. I'm downloading it as I speak, so I don't have any comments, first hand. Be sure to check the Release Notes to avoid any potential problems from creeping up. There are a couple of things in there that I'll need to resolve myself. Additionally, the List of Fixes should be a good resource to those that are curious what all the hub-bub is about...
Find it here: http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/p...p1/default.asp

Well, it seems that SP1 is going to download at an incredible 11.3KB/sec for me today... Hence, I'll be uploading the monolithic file to the AK FTP Server... It should be pretty easy to figure out which one it is. At my current rate of download, I would expect to have it up by 4PM PDT. ICQ me if you have any questions...

Is there any special reason why this upgrade would be neccessary? Any special fixes or other major changes? (Sorry, I don't keep up with this kinda stuff like I used to)

Thank you Microsoft... timed out with 2MB to go (of 135MB) and when I went to restart, it went all the way to 0. So many expletives, so little time...
-
Hmm.. that must be the whole shabang then.. 135mb is quite a big deal.. I think I'll wait til I get to college in 10 days to download that.. ;)

Okay, so I got it downloaded (finally! from KaZaA, actually... ;)). I've verified that it works and is virus free. My system is completely updated to SP1. On a side note, if you're one of the people that are running a Corporate Edition version of XP (you know, the kind that doesn't have the activation stuff because your computer is at an office where they purchased one of those site licenses), SP1 will likely not install properly because M$ is checking for CD Keys that may have inadvertently been used more than once (i.e. 4.5 million other times...). If you run into this problem, let me know, as I've identified a way for you to update your installation with the proper CD key.
In other news, I don't seem to be able to write anything to the AK FTP server, so I was not able to upload the SP1 file today. Sorry about that... Hopefully Beast will have some information on that for us sometime tomorrow...

Dang, and here I sit with a nice edition of XP Corp.. guess I'm up the creek without a paddle.. ;)
-
I have the corporate edition and I did it through windows update. I have not noticed any problems and it reports itself as being updated to SP1. No messages about the activation code or anything.
Ran the BF1942 MP demo just to test it out. Runs fine.
Of course it is still early since the installation but no problems so far.
-
Got it. Applied. No problems.
-
Whoops, just realized a mistake I made when I set up the new FTP server earlier this summer: I only gave you guys write access to the T2demos directory. It's fixed now, and you should be able to write to the upload directory as well.
-
I was waiting a little while to see what hits the net about SP1 to make sure there are no MS "surprises" in there.
I did actually pay for my copy of XP Professional ;) so I should have no problems there.

Throwing it into the uploads directory as we speak. For anyone that has any problems relating to the forementioned corp edition, there's another file in there that should be helpful. TTYL...
