Vista / Server 2008 Help
O.k.... I know we have some networking guru's in here, how about this one.
I just purchased a new laptop with vista (against my better judgement) and when I attempt to register it on the domain here at the office I get the error "The network path was not found"
It seems to be a common problem but I haven't had any luck solving it.
Anyone ever run across it before ? Any ideas ?

Windows Firewall, Admin Permissions, Permission to join the domain (if that's what you are trying)
-
I just set-up the server last week and I do have admin privileges on both the server and the vista client.
I disabled the firewall on both earlier to try and force it through but it didn't help. I've joined the other 20+ clients without a problem but their all running XP.
I also disabled IPv6 on the server and the client hoping that would help but nothing.
For giggles I also disabled auto tuning on the vista client and still nothing. I'm at a total loss.

I read a couple of tips indicating that a clean install of Vista resolved the issue as the manufacturer had tweaked a lot of things in their version of Vista, thus preventing the out-of-the-box from joining the domain.
Can you see any shares on the server?
Are you getting an IP from the server?
Try changing the name of the Vista box.

I can browse across to the server, see and access all the shares, and can ping it to my hearts content.
The load is a fresh Vista Business load that I did only yesterday.
I changed the nameon the vista client this morning and am still getting the same error.
Next step .... The back door !
On a serious note, I'm not at all familiar with 2008 server. I replaced our old NT Server with this new one last week after a crash. I'm not certain that I got everything set-up correctly. Is there anything in the server that could be causing this Vista box to be acting that way ?
Also my router is dishing out the IP's to the clients not the server. Is that a problem?

O.k. problem fixed ......
On a whim I checked the IP settings again and realized that the DHCP server was giving me the address of the router for my primary DNS instead of the actual DNS servers address.
Hmmm ... Looks like XP doesn't mind but when I brought Vista to the party that changed.
Thanks for the Help Nuts ....
