Can't get it started
The thing keeps bombing out on me. Anyone have any issues getting this thing going? I have updated all my drivers and put on the latest DX9. I am at a loss. There is not too much info out there that I can find but I will keep digging. The splash screen fires up and as soon as it finishes and tries to fire up the game I get a black screen then back to the desktop. Welp back to digging....This kind of stuff pisses me off to no end :)

Have you already patched Tribes to the latest version?
-
Yah I patched it right after installing it. I am almost tempted to wipe it all out and start over.
-
Tribes appears to have some nasty copy protection on one of the install discs. It made my CD drive sound like a helicopter when I was installing it. The first time I tried to install it the game crashed trying to read the disc. The disc (disc 2) actually has a small black dot on the media that I cannot remove.
I suspect that is some form of copy protection. Maybe your copy did not install properly.

Yah I dunno what this thing is. I even underclocked my pc back to normal speeds to rule that out. I was able to play the demo so I don't know why this aint working. I am uninstalling now for a 2nd try.

if you have clonecd or any antivirus software disable them.. just a thought

Ok I am giving up for the night. After a re-install it does the same thing. I think it is something with the video.. I got a black screen with a cross hair this time....then back to the desktop. Gonna make a call in the morning to see if tech support is worth a flip.

Dont give up. hope to see ya soon.

Well I can get the editor working and can render some stuff so it is not a vid thing. I think it has to do with the friggin secuROM crap they have for copy protection. I don't think it is initiallizing properly and crashing the game. Still pluggin away at this thing. Extremely frustrated now...

Any sort of CD copy software running in the background, or possibly something that might be taken as such?
-
Try downloading the no-cd crack (I assume they've got one out for it by now..) that usually fixes the problem if it has something to do with their *screw the consumer as pirates won't be affected by it* "anti-crack" software.
-
Sounds like the new Tribes is off to a smashing start (shadows of Tribes 2).
-
Once I got it installed, I have had no crashes. The game is very stable. All issues from the multiplayer beta were resolved, and it seems to be running very well.
-
Shot in the dark - but I remember that BF1942 strugged with refresh rate/resolution issues initially. If you had anything beyond a certain level you had to manually input something into a config file to get it working.
Try fiddling with your resolution and refresh rates (throttle them back to something very conservative if they aren't already) and try it again.

Squidly didn't you also have a bad disk on DoomIII? Right out of the box.
