I didn't downlaod it EA shipped it to me at home. I was thinking of trying it out tonight. Choozoo got it in the mail from EA also. They really want people to try this out.
yeah, i got it. maybe we should coordinate to get maximum 5 day AK effectiveness.
I'd be interested in that. If it's free, it's for me.
I got the CD in the mail but haven't tried it yet. I ought to see it sometime though to see how it changed from the phases of beta I was in. I am going to try to do some PC troubleshooting tonight but may install it and give it a whirl.
I just installed the demo, started a Terran warrior named Dobbs on the Pegasus server.
If you see me say hi and I might reply if I can remember how to use the chat interface ;)
The game has added a lot since last I was in Beta. Little things like side thruster graphics are nice and they changed the looks of some of the stargates. I enjoyed it in Beta so I shall see how I like the demo.
What's the link for the demo?
If found a link to an order form to order the demo CD (free I believe) here .
I did not see any link to download the demo, mine was sent to me without request from me.
I do have something to confess. I actualy like the game and this version is a far cry from the last Beta phase I was in (I was in phase 2-4 I think, it was interesting in those days since the server was only up certain hours durning the week and not up at all on sundays or mondays). They still have a lag problem but boy, you should have seen Beta 2, you could not move for the lag.
Oh, and combat is much easier now that I figgured out how to set my weapons to auto-fire, keeps you from having to bash hotkeys to shoot.
I played around with tradeskills a bit and did all the same missions that I did in Beta. The disgusting thing is I am up to level 26 already with level 10 in Combat. I like the game enough that I just ordered it from EBGames for 20 bucks and there is a $10 rebate coupon with the demo disks. I figgure I might keep at it a couple months so I'll order it. If it was a $50 initial purchace there is no way I would have bought it (before christmas and all).
I still have never grouped up in the game yet in beta or full release. Explorer classes seem to do better solo than warriors, it is fully possible to level at these levels at least without fighting (of course then your combat level would suffer but many explorers do a lot of trading of merchandise, trade skills, and prospecting asteroids which can be harrowing if you get ambushed).
The next patch is supposed to add some kind of PvP... teambased according to the people chatting about it. Have not looked into it myself.
Remember there are no actual physics in this game, it is purely an RPG with zero simulation. You can not collide with anything which is nice but you can fly through bases and asteroids and such which kind of looses some imersion factor.
The graphics are realy, realy nice.
Finally picked up a demo copy today at my local EB. They had about 20 or so demo copies squirrelled away in the "crappy PC game rack", among such perrennial favorites as Gas Station Tycoon and Grass Farmer 2. I walked away with 3 demo versions of Earth and Beyond at a grand total of 75 cents. The demos include a $10 coupon for the full version, so after my 3 demos expire, I may try the retail. I'm off to try it out. If anyone still plays let me know, and I'll post some character info.
You can "upgrade" the demo for 15 bucks too. I still have an account on E&B. On the Pegasus server, name is Dobbs (Terran Enforcer). You can make money fast with trade runs at most starbases (after you get out of the newbie area) just look for a trade vendor, he will have food stuffs and such. You click on the "Ask about trade routes" type response to get a list of what some different stations want that this vendor can sell. Basicaly he will tell you what you can profit on, gets good trade experience as well for levels and skill points.
I'm a trader named Frobisher on the Andromeda server. It's interesting. I'll have to play it a bit more though to reac ha verdict.
It's kinda lame but can be kinda fun. Depends on a lot of things. Grouping is hectic, most people don't communticate a lot and just fly around (someone is the main tank who you follow and you will automaticaly fly in formation with them) and kill lots of stuff. I go through missles like nobodies business.
After a fair trial, I have concluded the following: This game is about as much fun as the deep, dark, cold void of space...after your lungs implode.
ROFL!
I dunno, Faxman. I think your described situation might be a fair bit more exiting. I enjoyed it for a while, got my 15 bucks out of it, done now ;)
Eve Online holds some promise but Freelancer may give me my sci fi fix when it comes out.
