Large Hadron Collider
The new Hadron Collider being built in France is to be the largest ever. Pushing the boundary of physics farther than ever before. The data and info that's going to come from this thing could be ground breaking. Star Trek - here we come? It will generate particles never seen before - including black holes.
Yes, unstable black holes.
Originally they were only going to last tiny spans of time before disintegrating. But revised calculations show them likely lasting for over a second, possibly minutes. Supposedly there's nothing to fear, they're unstable, as soon as they gobble any matter they'll disintegrate. Outside my expertise base, I'll have to take their word for it.
I wasn't too worried about this, since surely these physicists thought about this. (We won't go into the last time physicists really bonered it. Which was the 3 Mton H-bomb that actually popped for 15 Mton). What really scared me were some recent photos of some of the researchers. Look closely...

Anytime you post "Large Hadron" you're guaranteed to get views.
Just sayin'.

I think during the test of the A Bomb a few physicists were worried that the earth would turn into a great ball of fire. So hopefully the little blackhole won't swallow us up lol.

Didnt Spiderman 2 start out like this?

I just hope they get the thing running. They broke the thing when they first powered it up. They won't have things fixed until July 2009.
