Actually, he said he'd be willing, not that it's planned.
Reading is fundamental.
New Line, which spent $US300million ($415 million) making the films, is already planning to continue its Rings success with an adaptation of Tolkien's novel The Hobbit.
I guess it's all how you interpret the word "planning". :)
"More difficulties with the Tolkien estate were looming, said Jackson, who added that he would be keen to get involved after he finishes remaking King Kong in 2006. "New Line haven't actually talked to me about The Hobbit. I know there's difficulty about the rights, certainly if they want to talk to me about it I'd be keen," he said. "
Newline may be planning, but it ain't there yet, bunky!
Have faith, brother. Where there is a will (ie. $$$) there is a way.
More.
Also, take a look at this recent picture of Elijah Wood. That's the one ring on his finger! He didn't destroy that in the cracks of mount Doom after all! :)

He needs to lose the burns, man.
BTW, get out your extended edition DVD of The Fellowship of the Ring. Put in the first disk. Now go to scened selection and browse to the final scene on the disk. It is the Council of Elrond scene. Now press the down button one more time and you will move to a highlighted hidden ring. Now press enter on your DVD controler.
It is an easter egg. The MTV movie awards spoof of the council of Elrond. It is funny as hell, if you haven't seen it then you must.
There is another easter egg on the extended edition of The Two Towers that is Smeagol's acceptance speach for best animated character. I don't find it as funny as the Elrond spoof but it can be a chuckle to hear Gollum call Peter Jackson "you <bleep>ing Hack!"

There's a reason Bribo is pimping this movie...
ROFLMAO!
Interesting what he says he would do with the ring if he really had it.
Asked what he would do if he had the all-powerful but corrupting ring that is the focus of the trilogy, Serkis said "I would banish all religions first of all."
Interesting indeed.
And the wait continues. Is this ever going to happen?
Resurrected thread award nominee.
Five and a half years. Jeez Clay... get a hobby.
I'd read somewhere (I think maybe it was Rotten Tomatoes) that they'd already signed Ian McKellan, Hugo Weaving, and Andy Serkis, and that shooting of both parts was to begin next year.
One Google search later, and Weaving hasn't, in fact, signed, but filming is about to begin in N.Z., with Guillermo Del Toro directing, with part 1 supposed to come out in 2011.
