I'm playing this one, too. It's an awesome game. I've had a couple of crashes, but I wouldn't call it an unstable game. Just hit the autosave key frequently.
IMHO, the key to enjoying Morrowind is to put the RP back into RPG. If you play it like Diablo, then you'll be disappointed. It's not about gibbing monsters. But if you really create a persona and try to role play, it's a great experience.

In order to satiate my appetite for NWN, I went and bought Morrowind yesterday. We had company over for dinner last night, so actually playing had to wait until 10PM... Unfortunately, I didn't get to bed until 5AM due to this addictive little bastard... :) I did have a couple of crashes to desktop (4, IIRC) in the 7 hours I was playing, but nothing that's too annoying since I save fairly frequently. The game is purty at 1600x1200 and the environmental bump mapping and pixel shading make this game look just plain fantastic. Did they use that Dragoor Morth Zoological Gardens (hideously misspeeled) engine for this game? It sure looks like it... Anyway, good game; thanks for the suggestion...

I've been playing Morrowind, myself, and I'm pretty damned impressed. It is quite possibly the most enthralling and immersive single player roleplaying game ever released (with the exception of Baldur's Gate II, perhaps), and it is definately pretty, although most of the characters look like they were beat down by a frenzied mob of ugly-stick wielding vigilantes. I too noticed the graphics engine's similarity with that used in the Zoological Gardens demo.
So, what classes are you guys playing? I have a level 3 wood elf assassin right now, and he kicks arse with his bow. I also started a monk who is no slouch, himself.

I'm a wood-elf theif who can't spell.

Currently, I'm playing a Dark Elf Warrior... Level 5, last I checked... I like that I can use magic every now and again even though I'm pretty much a pure-melee character... That keeps things interesting for me... I'll probably play a few more characters just for fun later on, but things are going pretty well currently...
It seems that I've been tagged as "not very nice" since the Fighter's Guild lady seems to only want to give me "not very nice" things to do, like shake down some dude in Suran for some money that's owed... I had to beat on a poor merchant in Balmora to recover a stupid code book last go-round and accumulated a nice 50gp bounty on my head... I turned myself into a guard, paid the bounty, and now all is well.

Heh...I've got a level 3 Khajit assassin. I'm mostly working for the Thieves' Guild right now, so you think you're "not nice"...heh. I've mostly done light breaking and entering-type stuff, though. No killing has been required. I got caught once by breaking into a shopkeeper's house, stealing two diamonds (one was required for the quest, the other one I took to fatten my purse), then trying to sell the extra one back to the shopkeeper I stole it from. It's a nice touch that they aren't as dumb as they are ugly. ;)

I'm still trying to figure out why they're calling me "The Bosmer"... :)

I'm playing a Nordic Marauder. Its a custom combat class, well suited for bullying, theivery and brute force. I tend to steal everything not nailed down, and have developed a nasty Mazte habit to boot.

Psst, Zorro. Many of those missions can be accomplished by NOT killing them. The code book I got by bribing her till she gave it to me. The same with the money that dude owes. If you are good at talking you can pursuade them that way too. Of course if you are worried about cash the other way is to just knock them off.
There is a simaler mission in the legionaires where they send you to get the deed to an old ladies land so they can expand on it "By whatever means". You can do the quick and dirty killer her and get it or there is a longer way around where you can talk to her and get all kinds of information that leads you on a much longer quest that, if I remember right, ends up taking you to a corruption in the local government.
In other words there are often more than one way to complete a quest.
Oh, and don't forget to go back and talk to Cassius (or whatever his name is) that you were first sent to after your release. He will have more for you to do once you reach level 2.
Morrowind has some great potential. Can't wait till it is expanded on a bit by the developers. Oh, and if you go for the strongest race/class combo the game will be too easy. Unlike games like Everquest it is not ballanced for the strongest combo. That is basicaly the way to set the difficulty. I created a Redgaurd warrior thinking in EQ terms and it is way easy, he just kicks maijor booty. So I created a Brenton archer and it is quite a bit more challenging seeing as how the Brentons are not the "best" melee types.
My Regaurd warrior is up to level 16 or 17 now, I forget. There are very few things he fears now.

My wood elf archer is about level 48. She's maxed out in Hlaalu and Thieves' guild, and she's working on Mage guild. I'm working on role playing her now that I've got her up so high. I guess I should finish the main plotline, but I'm not in much of a hurry. I'm just enjoying the world and doing some roleplaying.
