Unless your running a 64bit OS the 8gb looks nice on paper but has no actual benefit as the os won't recognize beyond 3gb. Nice rig though should serve you well.

I just install a new GTX 260 to replace my 8800GTX. Price is right for the upgrade if u ask me. Yes my 3d06 scores jump by 3000.
Thanks for the help - you guys rock.
After reading Hylander's posts more closely, I think I'm going to switch from quad to dual core - for the extra clock speed. As to cooling - is the cooling provided with the chip not sufficient? I don't intend to overclock - I run my systems pretty hard and don't want it to wear out prematurely.
Good catch on the video Rocks -thanks, I'll change that out.
My quad core outperforms (added 2000pt in 3dmarks 06) verus the old duel Core that was clocked 500 mzh higher.Quote:

Quad Core (2.5) way faster than Dual core (3.0). Just an FYI, I'm assume it's the cache improvements on the DIE.

Thanks Rocks, I'll stick with the originally spec'd quad core then.
On to OS, I was planning on using WinXP 32 for baseline, and Linux 64 bit for gaming. That might still work, but to be safe, I probably should triple boot, with Vista 64 bit as an option. What's the cheapest route to getting a 64 bit version of Vista?
FWIW, my laptop came pre-installed with Vista 32 bit home edition. Someone said there's a way to get an upgrade disk to 64 bit with that key for cheap (as in like $10). Of course I don't actually HAVE the Vista 32 bit disk, since manufacturer's are too cheap to give you the disks.

Tried ordering my rig last night w/ Newegg. My Mastercard was refused - due to the bank (Citibank) refusing the charge. No idea why. So I tried my Visa and yep, it was refused due to Chase refusing the charge. I called Chase to find out why. This isn't the first time this has happened to me - is this the new craze in banking?
Don't Blame the banks, blame the crooks! Funny that both cards were flagged. One call should fix the issue, unless the new egg site was having an issue with Card verifications.
I've been using the 64-Bit VISTA for over a month now and it's my primary PC. I haven't run into a single issue with anything. It's awesome and now that Lightroom 2 supports 64-bit, I really love it.
I "only" have 4GB of RAM, but I definitely see the improvements over 2GB with the 64-BIT OS.
Running Vista 32 with 3gb now for over 20months, May be time to reinstall Vista 64 and up the memory to 6 or 8gb
Uh… yikes.
My parts arrived today. Oh wow, these parts aren’t cutting edge awesome – they’re completely ridiculous. The motherboard alone looks like something you’d see under the hood at a car show. The manual’s half an inch thick, all English. The Bios is supposed to have over 3 pages dedicated just to individual overclock settings. There’s extra cooling fans in the box labeled: “to be used for water cooled systems only”. The “on board” sound consists of a separate sound card tucked in the corner of the box with something like 10 outlets. The motherboard box weights between 5 and 10 pounds.
So that’s the motherboard.
Oh wow.
*edit*
Sorry about the confusion Camel - I wasn't meaning to say they sucked! I was meaning to say this is beyond what I was expecting! I feel like I need a white lab-coat working on this stuff. These parts are made for some SERIOUS power users/tweakers. There's a little joystick built directly into the motherboard, and an LCD screen, so that you can play with your overclock settings like a game unto itself! I can't wait - muwahahaha! There's two BIOS chips. One for you to overclock, and one default. If you screw up the overclock, you just reach around back and push a button, and it resets the entire motherboard back to default. Don't even have to take the cover off.
Now about these parts for water cooling that they included, hmm.....
It's an ASUS, but I think a different model number. It's a Rampage Extreme, Intel X48.
AH im sorry got a bit confuzed for a sec. Yeah the board is sick, and the button in the back I have used 10 times at least. Trying to learn to overclock is challaging and I have learned so much since I have got this MB. Yeah putting it together was a blast, i know what you mean I kept grounding myself cause I didnt want to blow the board. My next rig I might set for watercolling just for kicks but this rig right now is so cool temp wise not sure I need too. Did you get an aftermarket cpu fan or the one that came with it.
Glad your happy with man it smokes :smokin :smokin :smokin
