I am planning to buy, but I buy everything. See you all on Friday!
Meh. No Mac client. WTF?
I don't see myself spending "most of my time" in AoC, but I do have a lot of nights where we aren't raiding, and badge runs/alts/farming just don't hold my interest.
I love WoW, and I may like AoC too. No reason not to play both with friends.
Not sure anyones looking for a reason to "escape" wow. For me its something new to try out and have fun doing with my fellow AKers that I haven't had since the BC.
Pushing into new raid content isn't fun to me. Grinding drunk with my buddies on a Friday night is however so we'll see. I don't think this MMO is in any way going to replace WoW, I do however think it may just be something for the lot of us that tired of WOW to play.
Nuts Jr and I are playing Mater-National. What a hoot!
I'll give AoC a try. I've got a $50.00 Best Buy gift card that needs to be spent.
Pre-ordered myself just to check it out. Someone holler on the server choice when it gets close enough.
With an expansion, of course. I'm even back on the WoW expansion bandwagon after seeing that video from yesterday.
Sadly to be honest I am looking for an escape from WOW.
Ive played many MMOs before wow and still plan to play many more. New games for me are a blast. I love seeing, discovering, and exploring new things. WoW will never be better than it was for me when I lvl'd my first toon to 60.
Yes I loved the expansion, the new dungeons, the new talents, the new BG's and arena action but it soon too fades to the daily grind of doing the same things over and over.
I guess I also have to admit I have been unable to get my brother to return to WOW and he is very excited about AOC and it will be a good chance to game with him again even tho he is living close now adays.
I know I am not a core raider so I dont feel too bad about leaving for another game but I do hope more of AK takes a peak at it since from what I have gathered it is a guild based game, more so than WOW. The only downside I see is its a little more PVP orientated than wow with guild wars and such but again thats my thing.
Of course I have been excited about many games in the past that turned out to be crap and if that is the case I have no problems stating such and coming back to hang with friends.
Either way I wouldnt look at AOC as a downfall for the guild but a chance for alot of those that have left WOW to get back together in a new game and having fun with old friends.
I am worried that this will be another WoW copy. I thought I read(granted I havent read a lot) that it was cooldown based combat, Tree skill system, stuff like that. Is there any major differences I overlooked?
Seriously, if we're struggling to fill raids now, what's it going to be like after 1/3 of the guild buys Conan?
Think it's going to be easier to get 25 on a Tuesday night?
This is not a complaint. I'm not pointing fingers at anyone. If we aren't raiding there isn't a whole lot in WOW for me now either.
From what I have seen and heard the combat style is suppose to be totally different than any other MMO although I wouldnt be surprised to see cooldowns since cooldowns have been used since the first MMO's pretty much.
Also even tho I enjoy a good debate on the forums I cant argue with Squid since he is right and it sucks, if you arnt raiding and getting better and prettier epix for the few extra stats than the one you have now there aint much to do in WOW. I guess thats why i grow tired of it.
In the long run even if AOC is like WOW but not WOW its still a few months of newness to enjoy and if everyone I wanted to join joins there wouldnt be many folks in WOW AK if any....so if you could do that, it would be great yeaaaaa.
On the concern about WoW, im not going anywhere, just thought it would be nice to try something new. If it is just like WoW, i wont last long, since WoTLK is comming soon. I dont want to play wow with different graphics. I guess I will see in a week!
Before anyone cries for the death of WoW, how about letting some people go in there and "scope it out".
Who knows it could be amazing and almost everyone could change, it could be awful and only a few hard core people like it.
Or it could split up the troops so to speak, and if that occurs then each troop split just brings more people into the community.
I'm intrigued by the game but not sure that I will enjoy the graphics because they appear to um graphic for my taste. That said, I am more than willing to go let Nuts and Bojan and Palooka and Swae and others go test the waters if the kool-aide doesn't kill them then it may be an opportunity.
I preordered today and got a card for a mammoth mount. Hooray!
One may only hope that <18 actually wont be able to play.
Also on a side note my brother has the early access to the game and will start playing friday, I requested he play on a PVP server, I will post the name of the server when he is able to create a character.
How are they doing PVP? Is this an open PVP system where you can attack anyone? Or is it a factioned system of some sort (i.e. Alliance vs. Horde)?
While an open system is more realistic it can be Hell out in the wild. I remember the Ultima Online days. :)
The thing that made UO wild wasn't the open-world pvp. It was the fact that your body could be looted of everything - including your teleportation runes and house keys.
Kill someone, loot their keys, use their runes to port to the house/guild keep, and loot everything.
Don't get me started on pickpocketing at the bank. :)
What I dont understand about AoC and maybe its just cause I havent looked hard enough, is what is the point of this game. I know it has pvp in it, but are their dungeons, how do you get gear, what type of classes are there, what kind of upgrades to your town, how are the controls handled....ect
I think it would be fun to play a game where you can defend your town and upgrade your town and stuff. but I havent seen a point or a purpose of this game. Every video I have seen for this game has been the environment or animals. I want to see game play to see what it looks like. I want to know what to expect from this game.
Some info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_conan
Looks like the combat system is very different. You direct where you want to swing your sword whether it be downward on the head or a side shot to the body.
Ok so im on the offical website reading about the classes, lol makes me want to go buy it just to see if its any good. lol LAWL
Hard part for me is, if i like it its going to be hard to leave my friends on wow lol that dont want to play it :santa:
Maybe I like it so much cause I just watched 300 last night so I am in the THIS IS SPARTA zone right now :)
screw it, I am going to try it out, just to see if my comp can handle it and if its worth spending time playing on off raid days for wow. :) let me know what server we are going to on friday :) I wanna tag along. Getting collectors edition after work if my copy is still on hold. :)
Anyone have a link on where to download it? The pre-order said it could be downloaded as soon as today.
$65 is pretty steep to me to "try it out" ($50 for the game + $15 monthly fee).
I'm going to wait for the reviews from AK members before I decide to take the plunge.
I have a hard time deciding if I will like something when someone else says its amazing. When wow first came out I refused to play, all my friends said it was amazing. 3 months later I recieved a free trial from a magazine I bought, so I tried it and was hooked.
First hand experience is better for me. Plus something about "ancient" battles and characters is kinda making me want to try this. hard part will be deciding what class to be.
When I pre-ordered, they gave me a card with a scratch off area that has my 'key number'. At the bottom there was a website that you go to for downloading the client (which I hear is huge). I'll post it when I get home tonight.
Does anyone know if we have to do anything beyond being on the same server to be able to play together, ie choose the same side? From what I see there are 3 races, but it doesn't mention a division like horde or alliance. Let's definitely make sure we all get on the same server so that we can get an AK guild going.
Speaking of which, can any of us start up the AK AoC guild or do we need a full [AK] to do it?
I vote for a full guild/game transfer :tophat: lol
You get to build your own town to defend
you get to do dungeons
you get to pvp
What more is there? :cheese: lol
Sorry bored at work, making me giddy
There's the August Knight's organization, and then there's the WOW-AK guild.
There's some overlap, but the "AKO" or "Full AK" has a different membership/org structure the the WOW-AK guild. Different rules for membership, different ranks, and people who don't even own WoW.
I (and you, probably) use the word "full" for lack of a better term.
I believe in order to download the game early you have to pay the $5.00 early access fee which gives you a few days head start and the ability to download the 13GIG client.
My brother has been downloading it for the last few days....I suspect its because it is due to his crappy DSL but it could be because of the larte number of folks download an extremly large file.
As far as the PVP server goes I am not a 100% sure how it works other than the PVE server has PVP zones set aside other than the PVP games where as I believe the PVP server has more zones available for open world PVP.
BTW I liked old school UO PVP I actually quit when they created the "other" non PVP world for everyone to play.
Probably another reason why I liked Shadow Bane, horrible graphics, horrible controls, great consept. Guild towns open PVP with the ability to loot corpses yay!
From what I'm hearing there will be areas to build Guild Homes. Only 9 areas in fact on each server. So if your not the first 9 tough luck.
I'll be picking the game up Monday and logging in shortly after, as my anniversary is Friday and I don't think thats really the best night (or weekend) for that matter to start a new MMO :cheese:
I read somewhere that at night it's a single player experience. You enter this mode by going into an inn. Multi-player is during the day. Kind of weird.
So apparently the "Early Access" feature has been sold out, so unless you have already gotten access and downloaded the client, chances are you won't be able to at all. Poop.
From what I have read there are areas for guild keeps throughout the land, i have not heard of a limit to these other than the frontier keeps which guilds can fight for. There are a limited number of these and only one guild can hold one. So basically your guild takes a keep and gets what ever bonus from doing so but in return has to defend the keep from attacks from other guilds who would want said keep for themselves.
As far as Single Player vs Multiplayer I think I read somewhere that the first 10 lvls or so are a single player experience where you get a chance to get a handle on your character and learn a bit of its background and lore. After these first beginning lvls you go into a multiplayer land.
The only thing ive heard about at night is the ability to visit your favorite tavern, drink way more than you should have then brawl with other patrons and friends alike in a drunken frenzy.
