Great memory prices right from Micron. Free 2nd day air shipping. The prices here are typically half what you would find in CompUSA or BestBuy.
Concerning working together: I don't know for the rest of you, but for me I haven't had to work together in a formalized way on the public servers. I think with some practice, I'll get better. If we define specific roles that each of us will have, we will be able to work on that in practice as well. We might also want to consider pairing up within our platoons.
Bribo - I have RDRam unfortunately - which is something Crucial doesn't sell. It's a big fat sucking millstone around my neck.
Verrine - good points... there's still a good deal of learning going on with regards to this game, maps, what it takes to win a map, and the talents of individual players. That's why we do the scrims and practices.
I would hope nobody gets discouraged... Keep in mind that coordinating our actions on the field will take a big step forward when we've got our private forum up and we're able to discuss roles in a detailed way (as opposed to doing the entire strat in a 1 minute speech on teamspeak.)

Take a look for good stuff there Squid. ;)
The slowness was caused by the server load though, right? I've got 512 MB right now under ME. I don't think more memory will get me anywhere.
I thought it was odd that it was laggy since I've been on Zorro's server during open sessions when it was full and never had a problem.
In any case, I couldn't hit squat with the assault rifle last night. I shot a bad guy down behind the american base who parachuted out and landed in the water. It took me two full clips to finish him off while he was swimming.
I agree with Armada. It seems like we were always outnumbered where ever I was on the map. Maybe I wasn't at the right place. ;) They seemed to spawn in packs too.
My two cents on tactics would be to use all our available air assets. They are too valuable to let sit on the ground. Even if they are used for quick transport across the map its better then nothing. I think swimming across the river is a good idea to get flanking shots and base infiltration.
Holding the sawmill may be the key. The bad guys were able to lay down some pretty devestating fire from the arty there on the Axis bridge. I would think this could be done by either team. The bridges are close enough so that a single person could position the arty and bombard the flag and road.
Leo mentioned this in another thread, but I think the net code is really gawd awful in this game. Things tend to start getting chunky when high pingers start joining. That being said I didn't think the lag was too bad last night.
Our initial push to the north bridge was pretty successful, but when the enemy countered we did not respond well. We'll need to think about this some.
The first map was fine... it's when we switched over to Axis I really began to have problems.
Zorro, with his zero-ping is a super huge asset in the air. We need to get 2 more good pilots, so interested parties should start practicing, then see me.
Not you, Armada - we need you in that tank ... :)
I concur with the Sawmill comment. Future attempts at this map will include
use of artillery and focused assignments (players guarding flags as opposed to choke points like the bridge.)
I can start doing some fly boy training.. my nice low ping is an asset now too.. ;)
Now you need to get your girlfriend airborne so we can count on you playing more! :)
hehe, I don't think she is much of a gamer..
Sorry about the server last night... It started getting a little frustrating when things started getting worse, not better, when I tried to adjust the spawn rate in game, and I couldn't fix it... When people couldn't spawn, I decided to just put a fork in it and walk upstairs and watch some Must See TV... Alot of the problem was the incessant complaining from their team (more on that in the private forum). To me, it's almost like telling me one of my kids is ugly... I didn't take it well, and the frustration of things in general really compounded the insult.
Our biggest problems last night seemed to be communication and freelancing. Platoon 2 never made it to the enemy base that I saw... The bad thing was that only Beast and I were active in TS in P2, so no one ever would have gotten timely reroute or regroup directions from Beast. It was very frustrating to look down and see one or two solo arrows on the ground at a particular location... When we were playing Allies, someone decided it would be fun to get into the 17. I'm not sure who (if anyone) ordered that particular tactic; the 17 is pretty fun on the pubs, but has very limited strategic usefulness in match-play. A skilled AA gunner can take it down in just a few minutes... At least with the fighters, I can set it down, repair it in a few minutes and be on my way...
On more than one occasion, a desperate call to assist at a particular flag was called out and no one made a move towards the flag... We were especially subject to failed communication with the split channels since I could only guess where you guys on P1 needed me most...
Honestly, I wasn't really on my game last night and missed on several crucial bombing runs... I noticed that KIN did quite a bit of group spawning... Probably they would call out a spawn point and EVERYONE that was due for spawn would pop there... That seemed to help coordination efforts... Typically, I could time the pops well enough to take out one or two of them as they spawned, but the bomb splash damage is so bad I wasn't more effective against that group spawning strategy. It would seem that arty would help in a situation like that...
IMHO, we got bested by CS/Quaker types. The first round, they didn't even touch the planes. They stayed primarily in infantry and tank. My air skills are especially potent against vehicles. It would seem to me that work on infantry tactics would be beneficial on subsequent matches since I'm sure we'll see this kind of stuff in the future...
As for the communications issue, there were several no-shows in TS and several people that sounded a little like charlie brown's parents... If we are to use TS effectively, it is VITAL that each of us spend time tweaking and tuning our client and sound card settings and mic locations so that TS can be used to its full potential. We might even need to evaluate the performance of the server itself to see if some of the problems we're seeing are due to high latency through the udel network... Lastly, I would highly recommend push to talk. People did a lot of bouncing in and out of speaking because of voice activation. Personally, I don't think the technology is there yet to effectively support voice activation. The lag for VA is just a tad too long to make it a good method of communication.
Anyway, valiant efforts, men. I think we did pretty well on the first map, and then kind of broke down in the second... This will be corrected by practice and working together more as time goes by... Chins up and move on... While you're at it, go blow some people away for me this weekend on the pubs. As for me, I'm going camping with the Scouts tonight, returning Saturday. It's supposed to be in the 30's today and tomorrow, with lows in the 20's tonight... Can't wait to freeze my arse off... Hopefully, I'll avoid coming home as a popsicle...
Squidly,
I'll be taking up flight school this weekend and will be ready for practice on WEDNESDAY. I think you know why I won't be at Monday's practice. :D
I popped in a few minutes late, but my ping was totally out of control, averaging 400.
You'll always have higher overall pings in match games than in pubs, for the simple reason that in pubs everyone chooses their lowest ping server, but in a match you have to take the ping you get.
Great points, Zorro. I know I'm beating this to death, but I want to hit it some more -
Don't get discouraged. The idea behind these scrims is to get used to the game and the tactics needed to win. We'll adjust and be the better for it.
