When I was a child many years ago my grandfather was on a walk with me. He used to be a logger here in Washington back when logging was done by hand with saws and axes. He even walked with a limp for being forced to break a picket line durring a strike to feed my father and grandmother, a striker tried to kill him with an axe through the side of his truck and nearly took off his leg. Those were different days.
Anyway as we walked through the forrest he pointed out a section of a rotted tree that was hanging in the branches above. He said that they used to call those "Widowmakers" when logging because you would bring down a tree or section of tree and a section would get hung up in other branches. They would fall unpredictably and sometimes kill a logger below.
He died shortly after that when I was 12.
Anyway I just liked the sound of Widowmaker so I kept it through my CB radio phase and on into the internet era. Partly because it just sounds cool and partly because it makes me think of one of the strongest, gentilest, kindest and greatest men of the 20'th centruy.
In memory of Henery T. Whiteman, my grandfather.
Although I do sometimes go online these days as Hopelesscase or Neckbone because I see way too many Widowmakers these days for some reason.

I agree with Bribo; Pix has the coolest name.

I started gaming online playing Descent 1 in 1995. I used a few different names at first; Hero, Oscelace, Lightseeker and a few more that I don't remember. I liked Lightseeker but it was a bit to long. I needed something shorter that nobody else was using. I wanted it to be something I could use from that time forward. A name that would be unique and that nobody else was using. One that would be remembered in the distant future. One that had hero-like qualities. Heroes only come to be as a result of hard work, the right attitude, seriously honed fighting skills and of course the passing of enough time for their legend to rise to the level of hero status. I wanted this name to be remembered from time immemorial (especially by all the babes). It had to fit the moment, and every future moment in time when I would step to the forefront and prove that I had skills and abilities stemming from a divine light cast down upon me from an undefeatable true God. A God full of love, hope and mercy for all, yet a God full of infathomable power and might. So ... ... ... the name had to fit for all occassions, all moments of time and last throughout the "Ages". Hence, Ages. Most people just call me John but you can call me Ages. ;)
