I preordered it today. First time I've preordered anything.

I did it for the bottle opener.

I'm all over this game. Love, love, LOVE Fallout. I still have Fallout 2 installed on my computer.
The simultaneous console release worries me. I hope they have not dumbed down the interface for the console users. Awaiting reviews before I buy.
It could totally suck and I'll still buy it. It's Fallout.
That said, my greatest fear, ahead of consolitis, is that they'll carry over the insane, idiotic, asinine scaling enemy scheme of Oblivion. I've heard rumblings which aren't making me happy.
For the uninitiated, Oblivion scaled the difficulty of enemies you faced. This meant you could pretty much go anywhere and expect to be able to fight with a reasonable expectation of success. Further, when you returned to starter areas, remaining foes would be 'scaled up' to match your current ability. Push-over foes would actually be buffed studs of melee wearing top armor and wielding enchanted weapons.
This destroyed the fun of that game for me. Combined with the ability to insta-travel anywhere, and there was no reason to even play the game.
New age, touchy-feely everybody wins jackassery at it's finest. I'd like to get my hands on the neck of the punks that thought of, greenlighted, then implemented this steaming turd of a scheme.
The pre-orders at ebgames include a poster and a CD with soundtrack. Just an FYI. I'm picking this one up. Wish it were on Steam though.
The interface is dumbed down, or at least for you PC game lovers it is. Fallout along with the past two Elder Scrolls games have been designed on a gaming console as the main target audience. Because of this the menus from a PC side seem a bit annoying. However with a controller in hand it's just plain awesome. So Bribo it might be a good idea to upgrade yourself from level suck and join the console fanboys :-) heheheheh
360 ftw, unless its an mmo.
Or a FPS.
Theres some FPS that are good on console, but they definetly are better when they come out for PC.
Never played any of these before. Hell, I've never heard of them before. (Told you guys I wasn't an FPS person)
It looks interesting, but the gameplay looks odd. The whole pausing and lining up shots seems weird.
Normally I play and dump. With a precious few, I save the boxed game forever. Fallout, Fallout II, Fallout Tactics I still have. I'm totally getting Fallout III. My avatar is from Fallout (Google Pipboy - look familiar? :) ). One of the best game franchises ever.
Never played any fallouts, but yall never steered me wrong before......well Tribes V sucked......ill let that one go! Ill pick it up at release!
1 Week and counting!
I'm really looking forward to receiving this.
I don't worry about reviews written by people who use "By clicking the right bumper on the Xbox 360 controller ". Dismissed.
I'll wait for a non-kiddie review or first hand experience.
That's just one guy's opinion. Let's wait to see what the other critics and our fellow AKers think.
For what it's worth, Official XBOX Magazine gave the game a stellar review, a snippet from which follows (from Metacritic.com): "Games this captivating do not come along often. Between its engrossing story, ginormous world, well-crafted RPG side, and white-knuckle FPS combat, Fallout 3 completely, utterly gives you your $60 worth."
Did I read this right? Shooter? They made this a FPS?
/facepalm...
Oh my, you really haven't been paying attention at all. :(
It's an RPG, (it's built on the Oblivion engine), and combat is FPS. You can stop combat and do aimed shots, provided you save up enough action points or whatever.
It's more single player WoW than Half Life 2. Go watch some of the vids I linked in this thread. Particularly Karma and Weapons. They're awesome.
No, I haven't. Much like you have been avoiding any WOTLK previews I have been doing the same with Fallout 3 so things surprise me.
Why did they feel they had to get rid of the turn based, small unit tactics? That's part of the game I really liked.
It looks like a very different game. Part of the charm was that '50s, cold-war vibe it had as well.
Yes, this is a very, very different kind of game. It has great potential and at the same time may be a titanic letdown.
