I'm sure I'll get to it eventually. I loved Morrowind and read a great preview a few months ago in CGW. But that's the kind of game that I won't be able to play it and WoW at the same time. :)
I will be getting this at lunch time today. Now I just need to stop playing Ghost Recon long enough to play it. My Xbox360 will be logging in some serious hours this coming week.
I'll buy the pc version today. Evidently they're also releasing an editing program that will allow you to make your own maps.
The game looks absolutely incredible.
Yeah, it's spectacular. It's hard to imagine it being an open ended "wandering" experience like the last one, but they supposedly did it.
My only worry is whether or not they dumbed down the pc version for console play. The past versions were also on consoles, so maybe this will be ok. I'm always frightened when I see what happened to games like the Deux Ex sequel.
You nailed it. That's the sole reason I'm going to wait a few days and read some first hand reviews before I pick it up. Be sure to post your first impressions. Hopefully it lives up to the hype, as I'm looking forward to some massively singleplayer action to tear me away from WW2 Online.Quote:

Bought it...
Flipping through the manual, it seems pretty darn complex. With MC tonite I won't be able to give it a go until Wednesday (unless we lag out again.)
sounds like a nerd fest :)
Morrowind was a serious time sink. Addicting as hell, as most good RPGs are.
I spent almost an hour making my character before I even got into the game. Now I'm lurking around the dungeon scoping out every little spot. This game is beautiful and has so much detail.
I don't know what you mean by 'dumbed' down for the console. As most of you should know by now the console market has surpassed the PC market. The way I see it, PC owners should be thankful they are getting the chance to play ESIV.
LOL, take off your zealot hat, Stitch.
Console games are limited design wise by the lack of keyboard control. Interfaces and gameplay are dumbed down. First person shooters are nerfed, and are a shadow of the PC counterpart. Yeah, some titles look glorious, but there's a reason why something like World of Warcraft would never work on the console.
And it's got nothing to do with graphics.
(Hunkers zealot hat onto head) Just so you know Squidly. The Xbox360 has support for both Mouse and Keyboard. I have used them quite a bit while playing the Final Fantasy XI beta. As well as sending messages with Xbox Live. And with most of the games that have been released for the 360 along with the great controller design. You do not miss the use of a keyboard or mouse at all. The Xbox360 has come a long way as far as consoles go. Plus having the chat feature on Xbox live has been awesome for getting groups of friends together to chat and invite to different games. With the game releases of COD2, Quake 4 and Need for Speed: Most Wanted. Comparing the PC version to the Xbox360 version. The Xbox360 version(s) all look and perfrom so much better. Your just stubborn about using a mouse and keyboard. Plus you don't have to drop $300+ dollars upgrading your PC so they perform well. BTW Blizzard is looking into releasing WoW for the Xbox360 next year sometime. And it will connect into the PC server world as well.
There I'll take my hat off now ;)
$50 for game + $850 for Xbox (with hard drive) + $600 for HDTV to take advantage of graphics = $1500 to play the game on Xbox...
... versus $50 to play it on your current PC gaming rig.
W
ASD ftw!
Bribo, let me correct your previous post.
$59.99 for the game.
$399.99 for the Xbox360 with the Hard-Drive (Where did you get $850?)
$? for a 16:9 style HDTV, if you don't allready have one. Normal TV's work also.
What if your current gaming rig is not powerful enough to run it the way it should? What if your not very PC savy, what steps or cost is involved in getting up to speed? hmmmmm......
(Left Analog) + (Right Analog) use or die!
No matter how much money it cost or what rig you play it on, with out some competition I get bored fairly quick.
One of the main reasons I have been hooked on MMO's since Ultima Online.
I do love a good FPS game from time to time but Fantasy based MMOs have always held my interests from my Nerd days rolling dice in D&D.
You're missing the point, Stitch... but here maybe this will help:

kk... now take your little joystick thingy and click off heals on all of those guys. Better hurry, they're dying and you need to hit them precisely and quickly with that flash heal goodness.
Go! Move that thumbstick!
Yeah, I thought so... :)
Please tell me that Crown went to a smart hunter.
Ouch :emblaugh:Quote:

Hey! no hitting below the belt! That was mean. I'm just trying to show some of you guys there's other things in life other then WASD + Mouse and WoW. I see my attempts have failed.Quote:

LoL you guys are bad.
I wonder if the WoW Console folks are going to be easy HKs :eek3:
Haha, all in due time.... All in due time (which *should* become more frequent... I just despise being a priest on a PvP server.. but after having 43 levels out of the way, theres no use in scrapping it now).. At the moment I'm busy plvling a Priest to 24ish on Feathermoon to level with the girlfriend's Rogue.Quote:

I'd like to buy this, but first I would love to hear some feedback on the depth of the systems for melee and stealth. I love complication and difficulty, and most of today's computer games don't provide enough. (Or maybe I 'm just getting old.) Is there stealth anything like the Thief series? Melee anything like WoW? If so, count me in.
I'm about 5 hours in... here's some random thoughts.
The graphics are spectacular. Think "Far Cry".
The "feel" of the game combat wise is similar to Morrowind. Same sort of floaty feel. It feels warmly familiar if you're experienced with the previous game.
Combat is likewise similar. With melee weapons, if you hold down on the button, you get a bigger "bash". Otherwise it's slash slash slash. Right click gives you a block if you're using a shield. If you're running at an enemy when you hit attack, you do a nifty little charge move which throws them off balance.
The inventory/spell/character/map/etc interface is VERY consolized. Fonts are huge, the interface is extremely clunky. There is no RPG "paper doll" for equipping items. There are no tooltips. Item icons are crude.
You use the inventory interface to load an "action wheel" with things like spells and potions. Basically engage a complicated shift/click sequence to map items/spells to keys 1-8. Then when you're back out in first person mode, you click the appropriate key and hit "c" to "cast" that choice.
The upside is: there are horses in the game and you can ride them.
The downside is: they feel unfinished. You can't look over your shoulder... you can look side to side something less than 90 degrees. Horses turn like tanks and backup very slowly. They jump, but it's ugly and doesn't accomplish much of anything. This animation feels "hurried".
Travel is remarkably clipped. If someone says 'travel to town X and talk to so-and-so', an icon appears on your map and by simply clicking on it, you are instantly transported there. No more having to travel on foot to a place first, or having to use the silt-striders to get from point a to b. Some folks will love it...others will hate it. I think it definitely detracts from the game... and the air of exploration that used to be there is gone.
Quests scale. If you are low level, you can still do things that you'd expect to be way over your head. At level 1 I went through this warp gate thing and took down an evil citadel in an effort to close the gate. It seems pretty silly to me... part of the fun of RPGs is the slow process of improvement and empowerment of your character. Each level gives you the ability to accomplish something you might not have been able to do before. In Oblivion, this grind seems to be gone.
The game *is* complex. There are a about a million different decisions to make when generating your character. Races, astrological signs, classes, and every choice has a definite repercussion on your outcome.
It's a living world. NPCs have "lives". They sleep, wake up, go to work, go home, and do it all again.
You get loading screens when you go into buildings. From time to time when you're travelling thru the wilderness, you'll get a little message on the bottom of your screen that says 'loading area' or somesuch, but it doesn't delay you at all. I'm not sure why they bothered putting that in there...it does nothing but break the mood of the game.
Rag doll physics - yes. When an opponent casts a spell at you, or shoots an arrow, you can make an effort to move out of the way.
You can buy (or steal) a house, and store your stuff there.
You can follow the main quest line, or go off and do whatever you want. There are many many subquests and dungeons, as well as other factions to join. Rather than joining the main story line and forces of good, you can go evil if you wish. Become a thief, assassin, etc. This flexibility is intriguing, and I look forward to exploring the limits.
So 5 hours in, I see some consolities, but also some promise. I'm not sure this game will live up to the Morrowind experience, but it's way too early to tell. The map is HUGE, and there is tons to do.
As an update to this, I left the main quest line last night and did some "ad hoc exploration". I stumbled upon an alternate quest and found it to be pretty spectacular. Complex in every way, multi-part, with a movie-like twist and moral dilemma at the end.
Very good stuff indeed.
Here is all the review I need! lol

PA Review
Yeah, that PA cartoon has me a little worried. From Squidly's description about wandering around as a low-level character, it sounds like the monsters scale with your level---which would make leveling pointless.
I remember that the previous Morrowind had some serious problems with difficulty. It was hard at first, but after one serious grinding session you could kill anything in the world. Now it sounds like they've gone the other way, so that combat never gets any easier.
It's a contradiction inherent in the formula, I guess: You want the player to have total freedom, but you want him to get stronger over time. You can't do both of those well.
They SHOULD give the player total freedom but certain areas should contain creatures that are more dangerous than other areas. NPCs can help guide the player into areas appropriate to their skill level (ie. quests).
You'll need generous applications of "Save/Reload" of course as you will die frequently wandering into areas that surpass your abilities.
I have a problem with a newbie character being able to basically portal into hell and kill demi-god characters.
All the while using rusty iron armor and the worst arrows in the game.
Parts of this game are incredible. Parts look rushed. The interface is pure console.
And that would be because it was designed for a console and was ported for the PC. Stop complaining about it.Quote:
