I was able.. more like allowed to pick this up this past Saturday :D My new 2004 Mazda RX-8. I got this baby fully loaded (well minus the navigation package). When they say Zoom Zoom they arnt kidding. This little car is fast, and hugs the road like a glove. I am still breaking her in but I am taking a road trip in 3 weeks and am looking fwd to taking some back roads and seeing what she can do :)
All I can say is WOW.. this thing is an awesome drive.

For backcountry skiing, hiking, SCUBA diving, and boating. If you get into serious trouble, this satellite transmitter with built-in GPS can alert Search-and-Rescue to your position anywhere in the world within three minutes.
These things retail for close to $1000, but after watching eBay for six months I was able to pick it up for $325.

I used to work Search & Rescue in the Coast Guard... we had a guy one time activate his EPIRB (kinda like the one you got) and mail it to the East coast. What a hoot we had tracking it across the country, dispatching planes and choppers to find it. The most important thing to do is to register it (if applicable). That data can make a big difference if you ever turn it on and need it.
I just saw this on the news tonight with avalanches. The one guy had one, but the battery failed before they could find him. I doubt it was the same exact thing, but similar concept. Regardless... make sure the damn battery is charged! ;)Quote:

I used to have an older Mazda RX-7. I loved that thing. MAtter of fact, I still have it but left it in NC with my dad. You gotta love the rotary engine. One thing I heard they did was increase the gas mileage. I was only gettign around 19 mpg in that small car. Not too good for comparable sized cars. Way to go with the new purchase. Its awesome!! I do like the 2005 retro looking mustang though.....mmmmmm....looks like pure POWER
Funny you should mention gas miliage... it SUCKS!!! my god I had read where people have been complaining about it.. but at 160 miles I have burned through 3/4 of the tank... It says avg 18mpg but I don't think that is right.... But hey its a fun car and I will just pay a little more for gas to drive it I guess.

Well... I just filled her up from 1/4 tank and got just at 10 gallons in it. So I am right at 17mpg... which is not that great since I do a mix of city/highway driving. I am going to chart it out and watch it. I am used to getting 300 miles on a tank with my old Bonneville, so maybe I just need to adjust to the new car.

17 MPG is 7.22 Kilometer Per Litre, and that....alright. I thought rotary engines would do better then that. But then again it is a sports car, so I guess thats not to bad.
This peaked my intrest for some reason and I went to fueleconomy.gov to check things out....
Turns out 18 MPG is about what you will get for any kind of compact sports car...the impreza gets the same milage, with the 350z(6 cyl) getting slightly better at 19 MPG. What boggels my mind is the Corvette (5.4L - V8) at 20 MPG in the city.
It could be worse...the Lamborghini Murcielago with a 12 cyl, 6.2 L, Man(6) gets a wopping 9 MPG in the city. :D
Well that was fun little lesson.
My full size ford f150..4.6 liter got 17mpg..and about the rotary motor...power to weight ratio is awesome but the drawback is the bad mileage ...those have been used in airplanes too...They even have a display about the motor at Nasa here in Houdton
