Anyone played America's Army?

I was thinking that free is an awfully good price but haven't tried it yet.

What's attracting me is remembering when I used to play Quake in, I think, Team Arena mode? It's a type of game where when you're killed, you're out for the rest of the round and the team with the last man standing is the winner. It was always great fun because both teams could observe their man and also chat with everyone else in the game while they were "dead."

Although we've got voice comms now, it was great fun to be the last man standing and get the win for your team while getting cheered on.

I've read that AA has a similar mode. Anyone tried it yet?

I played it maybe once or twice a long time ago. I still have it loaded, but I'm sure I'm a few updates or versions behind by now. It was "OK".

Yeah, I had played it shortly after it first came out. It had some good points and some pretty bad points. Forcing the player to complete training in solo mode, and ranking high to be able to get the specilized equipment is kinda a cool option, but it irked me that when I wasn't getting near perfects to get the highest rankings in gunmanship (to be a sniper) you'd have to go through like minutes of crap just to get back into action, only to repeat, heh.

Perhaps it'd be worth that extra effort if we had a few guys jumping into it (as personally I'd be quite willing to put in the time, now that they've got special forces expantion out.); being a bit bored with bf. Hopefully .8 will come out soon to refire the dc zest.

I've played AA on and off for a while now. The new version is really awesome and the whole game in terms of graphics quality and sound is second to none. Plus your right, the price is right baby!

I'd be up for maybe getting a group together and popping on a server. I'm sure Rocks would be in on this also. Right Rocks????

I'm on it!.. Server code has been downloaded and I will see what it takes to get it Registered again. This will be fun!

Stitch, Rocks, Bribo and myself played this for a while when it first came out, I like the fact you have to qualify in marksmanship in order to go to sniper school. I passed both but not sure if it saves your info anywhere. I would be into this it is a lot like Rainbow six in game play and realism.

I just downloaded it again ... was happy to see that my training was still on record with them.

Cool then my sniper cert may still be there, how long since you last played though AB?

I'm certed in everything, and I think my current rank is Sargent. So I can produce squad activites on the server. I think this is gonna be a blast when we all sign in!!

EDIT: Nope I'm just a grunt I checked my stats, so were all on the same page. BUT I'm sniper certed and special force certed ! woo Hoo!!

That certification/training stuff is teh ghey. :(

Just logged in and verified that my account is still there and my certs as well. Rocks will appreciate having to change my name from [HBR] Gunny Highway to [AK] Gunny Highway :)

It is, but its the army so you have to earn your way in.

Sounds pretty cool, I think I'll d/l it and give it a go.

I am having issues logging in, I passed the special forces training first go round only to not be able to update my personnel jacket. Oh well can't pay the new maps since it won't register my certs, if anyone is able to complete special forces training please post here.

I completed Special Forces training a couple of months ago.

I haven't played since early 2002 the account management page at least displays a message that it is down for maintenance now.

Trying out Dead Cities now I guess.

The transmissions go through now so I am all certed up finally.

I'm in the middle of downloading the latest patch. I'll install and try again tomorrow night to see what happens.

I played it early on havent tried it for some time now tho. Might be worth trying again with the faster hardware, i remember it being a bit sluggish and also having some lag issues early on.

I downloaded the patch and when I applied it I got error messages galore.. so I had to totally remove my install. If I have time, I'll try and re-download the whole thing tonight and reinstall.

Registration still closed for maintenance. :(

They met their recruitment quota for this month.

I have played it around a year ago. It was ok nothing really blew me away about it. I know that it was nuts trying to keep up with the patches and getting them was another issue. If you all are thinking about getting back into it I will have to give it another run. I think that some of my cert is still there. I was not able to get the sniper yet but will still have to work on it.

I started to play AA around the time it first came out. Since then, I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it over several times. I managed to certify myself in every field except in Special Forces. I can't get through the map without being detected. :eek3: The fact that I have only eight thousand honor points on my account is a big pain in the ass. Because of my honor points, or lack thereof, I do have, unfortunately, a very limited amount of servers to choose from. :(




So how can I play with you guys? :D

Still not impressed with it. I got on for a bit and worked on my medic training and completed the first part of special forces training. It is pretty limited with maps. Can get boring very quickly. I will stick with DC.
