Kidd and Swae Wedding Stuff

Well, a post in another thread inspired me to be a little self-promoting here and throw some info about our wedding up here. We do have a website which sucks so far, (blame it on Kidd!!) :eek: but I'm working on getting it up to par. The site is:

We are doing a destination wedding! In our minds, what better way to celebrate our wedding than by having an amazing vacation at a beautiful resort in the Caribbean. We are getting married at the Paradisus Punta Cana in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic followed by a 6 day honeymoon in Negril, Jamaica (you guys can't come to that, sorry).

Our wedding is Friday, July 11, 2008 at 6 pm. We will be arriving in Punta Cana on Tuesday, July 8th and leaving Monday, July 14th.

So, for all you travel-lovers, feel free to c'mon down!

Anywho been doing my homework and the trip might be possible for the wife and me. I found a flight from Vegas to Punta Cana (with a stop in NC going and Philly coming home) for 1157.00 roundtrip for 2. Do you have a group rate for the hotel cause the best I found was 330.00 a night all inclusive. We would be gettin in on Thurs about 3:15 and leaving on tuesday about 3:15. Got the days off work already so this might be a go. AND THE BEST PART..............NO KIDS! WOOOOOT

To be honest, I don't know the nightly rate. We booked through a travel agent, and my mother's trip is about $1600 for 6 nights with about $500 of that being airfare, so I'd say closer to $200 a night. I did have a friend who got a cheaper rate on orbitz. If you want, email the travel agent and give her your departure/arrival dates, and she'll give you the best rate she can get for the whole package. Just tell her you are part of the Grissom/Farrell wedding. =)

WOOT! Purchase my tickets tonight so there will be a Camel in Punta Cana! The wife and I are very excited to get to go, and thanks for the invite Swae and Kidd! So we get in at 3:24 pm july 10 and leave 3:15 on july 18. The wife and I are going to spend a little extra time in Punta Cana and get to know each other again, if you know what I mean ;) !!

Swae do I need to RSVP formally or is this enough! Is Clay and Pharm going also, might need to warn the wife about those 2 crazy kids

Hey we're going to buy tickets today or tomorrow. We're looking into the activities available in the area, and apparently this is a big SCUBA hot-spot. SCUBA sounds like something fun to try - but the wife and I are not certified. I've heard some hotels and dive shops will offer short courses and then send you in a group with a guide - rather than requiring the full week of certification before hand. Do you know if such is available at our hotel or in the area?

Also, aside from the big day itself, are there any periods we should to set aside for anything already planned?

With my booking thur Swae's travel agent I got free Scuba lessons for certifcation. Appraently the diving is amazing. Let me know Clay what activity's your doing maybe we can do some together.

Wow, that is neato, I wonder if I got the free lessons too...lol. I know that the hotel offers free 'basic lessons' with an instructor led-dive, but I'm not sure if that class would get you SCUBA certification. From what I've read, the SCUBA diving that is available around Punta Cana is beginner level, and that you have to take boat excursions ($$) to get to more advanced diving. Kidd and I *may* get certified here before we go so that we can dive in Jamaica as well, but not sure yet.

As far as other activities, we will likely plan at least 1 thing a day for everyone to get together, but nothing will be mandatory (well, except the wedding!). Most things will be informal get-togethers at resort events (let's all go to the beach wine party!, etc.). I do plan on going on the monster truck excursion but I know not everyone will be interested enough to pay for it or spend all day out. I have heard that it is best to stick to resort-sponsored excursions (ie no hopping in a cab and heading to Santo Domingo), as it is a 3rd world country and you can get ripped off/endangered.

As a side note, there are a lot of organizations that collect basic school supplies for the children in Punta Cana. Many brides/guests bring donations with them, and apparently the airlines will allow you to bring a freight box of donations free of charge if you are affiliated with one of these organizations. I plan on researching this further, as I would be interested in helping the local children if I could.

Clay, my bad, it wasnt thur the travel agent it was thur the hotel. Sorry for the mix-up but yes it does go towards certification. The wife doesnt want to dive but Im most certainly going to so if pharm and you find a good program shoot me line and ill sign-up as well. Beach wine party sounds awesome, count me in. Im down for anything!!

On a side not did you find a cheaper fare for US airways clay?

Looks like that Monster truck trip takes you right thru Nagrand! How cool is that? I am betting kidd falls out along the way.

That depends on what you mean by "cheaper". It seems that USAirways does indeed fly out of Chicago for less expense than flying out of CWA on NWA or United.
BUT Chicago is 5 hours away so in that case we need a hotel room both days (no big deal still cheaper).

BUT Chicago on our way out is in the midst of their food festival and as you know I LOVE GOOD FOOD. So that may mean a weekend in Chicago and festival tickets and oh while we are there why not see the fireworks on a boat off of Navy Peer. etc.....

So I doubt the credit card bill will be any cheaper in the end but my tummy will be fuller and I will have had more fun :)

Airline tickets purchased and our resort houseing has been reserved.

We fly in on July 6th, and fly out on July 13, 2008.

There's a ton of very cool stuff at this resort - everything from cooking classes to horseback riding to snorkling. I've gone snorkling in the caribean before and have to say you can fill almost a whole week just doing that - it's a ton of fun and requires no exotic equipment or certification classes. If the hotel offers one of those half day SCUBA class things, I'll probably do it while there too. Doubt I'll get pre-certified before I go though.

So the big decision now: Hit the gym so I can look all buff in skin tight speedo's, or wear normal swim trunks? Hmm...

Looks like you guys will actually be there before us...we arrive on Tuesday the 8th.

I'm so glad you all will be joining us, I can't wait until July!

lol It's gonna take alot of work to get me in a swimsuit at all, I don't want to blind anyone with the whiteness of my limbs.

I actually have the picture of the pasty white Wisconsin boy in normal swim trunks on a beach in Brazil.

I call it Clay's marshmellow picture, Clay calls it Where's Gringo. There are all these wonderful brown bodies and then there is this blinding light in the middle of it.

I wonder if it will take me over 6 months to lose the strange tan lines I'll accumulate over this vacation like it did the last one.


AND since there is currently like 5 feet of snow out my window it certainly is nice to be able to think warm thoughts!
