Bands Regrooving the 70s and 80s

I wanted to see what all of you thought of all these new comming bands lately rehashing 70s and 80s tunes. I have to admit that I am enjoying hearing some of my favorite songs that I used to listen to back in the day when I was a little head banger :rolleyes:. The other day I heard that Korn was doing Word Up after a lot of searching I was able to find it. It has a pretty good groove going on with it not a bad cover. Also Rob Zombie and Lionel Richie hooked up to do Brick House it is a pretty wild rendition of it as well. Not sure if there are any videos for any of those songs. Would love to see it if they did do videos. I know Rob Zombies stuff and I bet it would be pretty wild.

It was only due to poor management that these guys didn't make it to Superstardom, they "ROCKED!" I literally wore out their Album "Line of Your Fire" on cassette. :bounce:

The band is from Rochester, NY. A few years ago I found a few of their albums in mint condition on Ebay; never regretted buying them. :)

The Atari's Redid "Boys of Summer" by Bon Jovi or Bruce Springsteen.. I always get those two confused.. in fact, I never really knew who did the original.. just thought it was one of those two.. :tongue:

I really enjoy 311's cover for The Cure's "Love Song". I have always disliked the original since it always seems to induce feelings of sadness rather than happiness. 311's version, on the other hand, has a bit more "life" added into it; which in effect makes it a lot more easier to listen to.

how about old groups covering old songs? The new Rush CD is very interesting...some awesome bits...some not so awesome bits...all in all I give it a 7 (and I'm a HUGE Rush fan..so the score might be a bit jaded). Try Mr. Soul on if you feel like dling a cool cover.

Best cover album ever: Pat Boone "In a Metal Mood". A must have for any music afficianado.

Richie!! Buddy!!! The Cure's 'Love Song' is SUPPOSED to be sad!! Love is a horrible feeling...if you are a Goth. You need take a look and get a better understanding of the whole Goth scene. I strongly recommend Bahaus, Cure, and Type O Negative for a crash coarse. Try some Joy Division (the precursor to New Order) for dessert. ;)

BTW...opening up a music thread with me is like opening up a discussion on Kerry and the New World Order with Palooka...something I'm bound to just go way overboard on...;) I am a pop culture (music only) freak.

It's a horrible feeling when the crap hits the fan. It's even worser when you still love them but can't be with them because they've done bad things to you. That's life, I guess. Right?

Ozzy and D. Zappa remade "Stayin Alive" a while back and it was an awesome remake. I still giggle when I hear it today.

Of course Alien Ant Farm's cover of Smooth Criminal is cool also.

I am a big Rush fan and I have yet to check out Rushs new CD. It is a growing trend of bands doing covers and releasing them as hit singles. If I remember correctly Alien Ant Farm received a lot of attention for covering a Michael Jackson song. I have a version of Ozzy covering a BeeGees song called Stayin Alive. Pretty funny to hear Ozzy covering disco song. The song was slated to be on Ozzy's Down to Earth CD. But Ozzy decided not to put the song on the CD, but through channels on the internet the song has become an underground hit. Good old Ozzy, even he can do covers.

Getty Lee from Rush is the only rockstar who could not get laid! Rush was my first band I ever really listen to and the ONLY good thing to come from Canada besides ladies trampolines. (J/K Purch) Phish has done great covers including Edgar Winters Frankinstein, Rolling Stones Loving Cup, Frank Zappa's Peaches N Regila, and many more! ALL worth listening to. Good old Geddy Lee. He sure is a heck of a musician. Now that I think of it I do not think I have seen any groupies at a Rush concert. Not sure what kind of groupies they could attract at that. Actually that whole band is filled with amazing musicians. I know that a lot of drummers are heavily influenced by Neal Peart. Not to sure about Alex he is an interesting memeber of the band at that. I think the most notable people in the band are Geddy and Neal.

I think I know of another good thing that came from Canada Camel. Terrance and Phillip are from there and they are the heros of those little kids from good old South Park. Also I think that Shania Twain is from Canada and boy is she quite a dish could use more looking like her comming out from there. Not to familiar with Shania's music but what a wonderful sight to look at :lol2:. I am more familiar with her husband Mutt's work than hers.

I have a great dload called "Stairway to Heaven" where Zack Wilde and Lou Gramm, Sebatian Bach and Slash all get together and cover some Zep tunes...very nice!

Actually, Alex is one hell of a guitar player, and often featured in "Great Guitarist" lists. He's no Van Halen, Hendrix, Clapton, Beck, Page or SRV, but he does have an extreme command of his axe (refer to By-Tor and the Snowdog for awesome innovation on the Gibson). The problem is, he's overshadowed by arguably the greatest rhythm section on the planet. Perhaps Les Claypool is a better bassist...maybe no one plays the double bass pedal like Alex Van Halen...but Geddy and Neil are just so much better than nearly everyone else that they officially rank as LEGEND. Alex...although great...isn't legendary..and thus comes off looking like the week link. And then there was that side project "Victor" which was just a train wreck...didn't help his cred any. But, IMHO, Lifeson easily ranks in the top 30 guitarists ever. Geddy and Neil are obviously top 3 in thier respective disciplines.
I defy anyone to argue otherwise.

I would love to hear that Zep cover CD that has Sebastain Bach and Zakk Wylde. Also Yngwie has played on a few tribute CDs. He has done one for Aerosmith where he played a killer version of Dream On with Ronnie James Dio on vocals. Another good one is Yngwie tems up with Ripper Owens (Former Judas Priest Vocalist) they covered Ozzys Mr. Crowley. The CD that he played that on is called Bat Head Soup a Tribute to Ozzy. Yngwie has also played on a couple of other tribute CDs including a tribute to Dio called Holy Dio and a Tribute to Deep Purple called Smoke on the Water I am not sure but I think he has also played on a Queen and a Van Halen Tribute CDs.

Just heard on the radio today a new band redoing the old Johnny Cash song Ring of Fire. I was very impressed with it. I have been a big Cash fan his music crossovers so many different genres. Also I went and check out With out a paddle a very good and funny movie. At the end credits it had a band redoing the old Ram Jam song Black Betty. Put a metal groove to it surprised to hear it since it was such an obscure song. In fact I was looking into my band covering that song would have been a cool song that was kind of an underground song. Oh well back to the drawing board. :cool:

I do not think I will be seeing any bands covering The Cure. Then again who knows someone might come up with a way to regroove The Cure. That could be both scary and interesting at the same time. For me though I perfer bands with Thundering Bass, Screaming Guitars and Heavy Hitting Drums. Something to really get caught up in the mosh with.

On the radio lately I have been hearing a lot of classics that are being covered by new artists. This first one was convered by a band called Social Distortion it was an old Johnny Cash song called Ring of Fire not to bad.

Another one that I heard and I was blown away it was really awesome by a band called Shinedown they did Simple Kind of Man by the Lynyrd Skynyrd band if you have the chance to check it out I think it is a great version done acoustically.

The next one I am not sure of the band but they did John Lennons Imagine and to me that is just one of those timeless songs a great song but this band did not capture it. Seems that all the kids are enjoying it though. Maybe it is just me lol :confused:.

Also I am not sure I found a version of Brickhouse with Rob Zombie and Lionel Richei doing the vocals. All I can say is very cool and to hear Rob and Lionel singing you would think it would be off sounding but it was really quite good.

I also wanted to throw in Korn covering Cameos Word Up that is really great and I am the first one to say that I am not a Korn fan but I think the fact that they could take a Disco tune and turn it into a Metal song is pretty good. I think I enjoy the newer version of the song compared to the old one.

Interested to see if any of you out there have heard these and what you thought of them.

Guess whos back with a new cover tune??? The Ozzman himself is putting out a new box set which includes some covers. One cover that is getting pretty heavy air play is Mississippi Queen by Mountain. I think I may have to preoder the box set it sounds like it is going to be really good. :bounce:

I've heard the Mississippi Queen cover and must say it is pretty bad. You can barely hear or interpret the lyrics.

I'm more excited to see Antrhax with Joey doing vocals with Danny and Frank back as well.

That will be awesome to see Frank, Danny and Joey all back with Anthrax. I have also heard that they are keeping John Bush around as well. Can't wait for that tour. I was upset when Dan left and even more when Frank left he is a big part of Anthrax. Very happy to see the old gang back.

ok another old thread that I am pulling out fromthe cob webs. I was curious if we had any Richard Cheese and Lounge Against The Machine fans? They are wild the guys performs todays hits in lounge singer style. My favorite song that they perform was originally done by Disturbed called Down with the Sickness. For those of you that saw the new Dawn of the Dead movie the tidbit of the song was playing in the movie. It is a trip to hear him

I LOVE those guys, Bass--I've got a bunch of their stuff after hearing them on the radio. Far better than Paul Anka's lounge covers of rock songs.

I am surprised that they are not more popular. Some of Richard Cheese songs I think would fit perfectly with BF2. Especially Down with the Sickness.

I found another band that has sparked my intrest. They are called The Gourds. They redid Snoop Doogy Dogs Gin and Juice with a bluegrass feel. Pretty wild hearing Gin and Juice in Blue Grass.
