Amazon is shipping a box copy of Civ 5 for $35, shipping included, as part of their "pre-black-Friday" sale. Thinking I'm going to buy this--I've heard good things. Has anyone tried importing their non-digitally-purchased, non-Valve-produced games into Steam? It would be cool to get Steam to recognize that I own this game to load it onto my laptop/get the free DLCs/etc.
EDIT: I did, in fact, buy it, because this deal's only there for a few hours.
I have Civ 5. Great game as always, still the same basic concept as 4 with a much improved UI. My only issue with the game is lack of time to play it...
I love Civ 5 also. I would really enjoy trying a MP match, I just need to tear myself away from COD:BO and Fallout first.
I'd be in on a Civ 5 match if there's one at a time that I'm available, like Thursday evening.
Cool. I took the cheapskate "supersaver" shipping option so I probably won't have it until next week sometime, at the earliest. We should pick an evening after the Turkey Day break--preferably some evening when we have a LONG time to play! ;)
See that's the reason I've shyed away from the online concept. They must have a way to speed it up though. Either case, if I'm available I'd give it a shot. Certainly can't hurt to try. Random generals, 1 big continent?? :liplick:Quote:

My copy turned up on Saturday. I'm installing it right now. The disc copy actually activates and installs through Steam, which is really cool, because it means I can install it on my laptop too. Probably won't have too much time to fool with it before my Thanksgiving vacation, but I'm looking forward to playing it (hopefully with you guys) when I get back next week.
Update: after installing, the game crashes silently to desktop right after the Firaxis cinematic. Loading without the movies doesn't help. Reloading on my gaming desktop from Steam's repository (hoping I just had a bad DVD). I'll have to see if it does the same on my laptop after I'm done using it as a spare TV for football. According to the Steam forums, this problem is fairly common.
I installed from disk without issue, so hopefully it was just a bad disk. XP .x64 OS.
Still craps out after the movies (or immediately with intros off) on Win7 x64. Going to try it on my MacBook (BootCamp) to see if it's any better. Otherwise it looks like I'm going to have to contact 2K support with my DXDiag log.
The game works fine on my MacBook, so at least I can play. Hopefully 2K support will tell me something good.

Won't be able to make it, unfortunately--will be getting ready for my annual Thanksgiving voyage. I'm up for pretty much any night next week, though.
Just an FYI that I bought the "Deluxe" version of the game on Steam this evening and I'm in the middle of downloading it now.
