Good news and bad news for ol' Beastie...

The bad news first: My main machine appears to have burned out its motherboard during some power issues I've been having.

The good news? Well, first of all, I'll be picking up a new motherboard this evening and transferring my parts into it. Depending on price, I might go ahead and buy a new processor too...upgrade from 900 mhz to 1.5-1.7 Ghz (Athlon, of course). And...my apartment complex is offering free cable internet to be installed tomorrow. So I'll be blazing fast for T2 practice on Sunday (provided my machine works, of course). Not that this changes anything--this place is a ripoff, and I'm still moving out and buying a house in May. How much of a ripoff is this place? The monthly lease payments on a two-bedroom house will be less than half of a month's rent at this one-bedroom dump. So I'll probably end up putting some of the money I save each month towards cable there as well.

It's true, last time I paid a visit to The Beast's apartment I was robbed at gunpoint by a drunken roach.

For some strange, twisted reason...I imagined the "good news" of your post was going to be the mentioning of you and Faxman being engaged. Don't ask me why.

Sadly, it was all bait and switch advertising. I had thought that the apartment folks had reached an rangement with Comcast to offer cable internet as an amenity--this was something they had been investigating, at my urging, when I was a consultant for them. Sadly, though, the poster was just a hook to get those who didn't read the service agreement carefully to be shocked when an additional $40 charge shows up on the cable bill. I guess I should have expected it from these clowns--back to the house hunt I go. And when I get a house, it's going to have DirecTV and DSL. Comcast and Towne Court Apartments--two bunches of crooks made for each other.

I recommend DISH Network over DirecTV. DISH is cheaper and better. Plus you can get low cost/free dish + tuner from them and have only a 3 month committment vs. the 12 month DirecTV contract. Moreover, if you do back out early, the penalties for DISH are $200 vs. $500.

Bah. BAH I say. Dish TV provides no NFL Sunday Ticket...

DirectTV is where it's at (and I've heard rumors that a buyout of Dish by Direct is actually in the works.)
