Personally, I can't wait for this. I think AK needs to get back in the Tribes groove. :)

Looks dumbed down to me.
Hopefully there will be a playable demo eventually so we can give it a test drive.
Looks pretty cool. It seems like it would run well even if you don't have the most "fast and furious" video card in the world. Accessibility is a good thing. I'm not sure how much you can dumb down a Tribes game, though. And sometimes I like simple--Max Payne used about five buttons in total and I loved that game. But after all, as the saying goes, that's why they make chocolate and vanilla--because you like crappy ice cream. ;)
Here's how you dumb it down, Beast. Take out mines, grenades, flares, sensor networks, and turrets. Basically remove all deployables, thereby taking a big fat bite out of strategy.
I'm not a fan of less detail and options, but yeah some people will still like it I'm sure.
No deployables / farmings = SUCKS!!
Oh--you mean dumbed down like THAT. That would bite big time. I thought you meant dumbing down the action portion of the game via oversimplified controls (a la Deus Ex 2, from what I understand--despite some of the negative feedback I've heard here, I've heard good things about it from other sources and am curious to try it for myself.)
Deux Ex 2 was dumbed down - and more than just controls. The upgrades, the skills, the weapons you could use and the mods you could do to those weapons. Everything.
Basically they removed about 80% of the depth.
If you haven't played Deux Ex (1) you may enjoy it - who knows? Having played and loved the first one, the "sequel" was a dismal letdown. They just ripped the guts out of that game.
I will certainly give the game a chance, but judging from the videos, it looks like Unreal Tournament 2004 with jetpacks. I hope I'm wrong.
I hop you're wrong about deployables/farming. That was an important and fun part of the game.
Well I was doing a bit of browsing on the forums, etc and I did come across this little bit I hope pans out to be correct as it does have 'farming' objects listed:
Here is a list of roughly similar features for both games, and features unique to T:V:
T:V to T1 & T2:
Spinfusor -> Spinfusor
Chaingun -> Chaingun
Grenade Launcher -> Grenade Launcher
Mortar -> Mortar
Sniper Rifle -> Laser Rifle
Hand Grenades -> Hand Grenades
Burner -> Plasma Gun
Three Armors -> Three Armors
Jetpacks -> Jetpacks
Energy Pack -> Energy Pack
Repair Pack -> Repair Pack
Shield Pack -> Shield Pack
Deployable Turret -> Deployable Turret
Deployable Inventory -> Deployable Inventory
Deployable Mine -> Mine
Satellite Dish -> Base Sensor
Command Map -> Command Map
Radar HUD -> Compass+Command Map
Jump-Tank -> Hover Tank
Fighter -> Scout
Inventory Station -> Inventory Station
Recovery Station -> Ammo Station
Emergency Repair Pack Station -> Repair Pack Spawn
Generators -> Generators
Force Fields -> Force Fields
Base Turrets -> Base Turrets
And that's only OBJECTS. That doesn't include outside mechanics, such as zoom, inventory favorites, respawning, etc.
T:V to UT2K4:
Spinfusor -> Rocket Launcher
Chaingun -> Minigun
Sniper Rifle -> Lightning Gun
Vehicle Pads -> UT2K4 vehicle spawn system.
Repair Pack -> Linkgun repair ability.
Command Map -> Very vaguely resembles the Onslaught Map, though the ONS map has far fewer features.
Deployable Mine -> The Mine Layer in Onslaught.
Base Turrets -> Base Turrets
Fighter -> Raptor (vaguely)
Jump-Tank -> Goliath
If anything, UT2K4 stole things from the older Tribes games.
As for T:V only objects:
Blaster -> (Shotgun)
Grappler -> Unique. No FPS has a similar grappling hook, though Quake had a grappling hook of its own.
Buckler -> Similar to the Tron 2.0 disc.
Energy Blade -> Knife
Rocket Pod -> Half-Life Guided RPG
Speed Pack -> Mostly unique. Similar objects exist, but no seriously analogous item can be found.
Rover -> Based off the T:V spawn system. Similar to most buggies in most FPS games.
Assault Ship -> Big gunship, similar to big gunships from other games.
Catapult deployable -> Vaguely similar to jump pads.
Repair deployable -> Mostly unique.
Respawn system -> Very vaguely similar to BF1942 spawn system.
Here's the problem, Hylander: You have to get the deployables from stations within your base, and each base will only cough up a certain amount (3 turrets, for example.) You're not going to see turrets deployed far afield in strategic locations.
So yeah they exist, but they're extremely limited.
And they've completely hosed the sensor network. Now you get a satellite dish or some crap. No more motion sensors. No cloak pack. Sucks.
yay no Cloak Pack, I seriously never liked that thing..
Time to pull out T1. ;)
Actually, I haven't played Deus Ex 1, although I have it. When I first got it, it was too much for my machine to run well and I sort of forgot about it and its been collecting dust ever since. Is it worth revisiting in single player with a modern machine, even though it's a few years old?Quote:
