The part that leaves me so confused is the press elected this administration. The open Bush hate was unprecedented in my life. (I don't remember Nixon, maybe it was as strong then). And the open fawning and adoration of Obama was also something not seen since John-John.
So why are they questioning the administration now? They backed Obama with all their heart and soul. As far as I'm concerned, they sold their Journalistic Integrity to get him elected. When you invest that deep, you don't just change gears at the drop of a hat like this.
So I'm just confused.
Okay, late night drunken post here and I probably shouldn't say anything...
The press didn't elect Obama. You guys are going to have to accept the idea that Dubya was an unbelievably crappy president and that's why the Republicans got slaughtered.
Next, the theory of a vast left-wing media conspiracy needs to be re-examined. 90% of the news in this country is disseminated by roughly six companies... all of which are owned and run by Republicans. Republican CEO's. Republican board members. Major Republican stockholders.
The simple truth is that "The Media" is not in business to make the news, they're in business to make money... pure and simple. Whatever makes the most money gets the most press. Whatever left-wing conspiracy theories have pretty much been obliterated by Rupert Murdoch. He isn't an Australian super-patriot; he's just a shrewd businessman who is doing a good job at filling a demand in his market.
Two "Big Media" exhibits that come to mind are big media's treatment of the Clinton blow job and Howard Dean's scream. My personal opinion is that other than money, big media's only other concern is flexing their sanctimonious muscle from time-to-time to show the latest band of spineless politicians where the real power lies. The crucifixion of Howard Dean was truly something to behold. The delicious irony was that he was elected Chairman of the DNC and every Republican on the planet, and everyone here at AK, were laughing their asses off at such a farsical blunder. (We all saw how that turned out...)
Now. It's late. I'm drunk and I'm done. Flame away... I just found my Nomex undies.
I remember Nixon but I was young and my attention spam was very short. He was a tough guy and he didn't get along well with the press. He was very conservative. JFK was a dem and would be considered more conservative than many modern day republicans. Put the squeeze on a modern day republican and some of them will squeal like a little lib girl or Howard Dean.
I remember the day JFK was assassinated and I was told to go home for the rest of the day. I was numb and thinking how can that happen? In those days they showed the taped gory details of his head going back from the bullet impact and the flying blood spray with Jackie leaning over the back seat trying to grab all the gore like she could put him back together.
Nixon and Brezhnev... Two tough guys with a mutual respect for each other. I watched the Frost/Nixon movie and was suspicious of how Hollywood might slant it, but from what I remember, I think it was reasonable fair. The actor had a more imposing look but the real Nixon certainly was no pushover. I don't think I saw or heard the Frost/Nixon real time interviews. History however will never be kind to the only impeached president. He screwed up and he knew it.
Compared to Yomama, Dubya is starting to look really good. Bush was not a communicator but Obologna talks all the time and doesn't know what he's talking about and has put the country in the deepest debt in history. FDR was considered a hero but his moves kept the Great Depression going until war brought back the economy. Europe didn't call their depression great and they got over it. If Yomoma's plan is to destroy the middle class to bring about socialism, he's right on target. What socialist country has a strong middle class?Quote:

No argument there on on Dubya. The US could have done a lot better. As to the press not electing Obama, I'm not sure I agree. Could Obama have been elected without the media bias - quite possibly! But IMHO we'll never know.
Media bias has an influence. And the media bias was so bad even the lefty SNL was making fun of it. Weekly! It was really apparent to.. everyone. If there's a strong media bias, it will affect the results. Nations spend huge resources on propaganda during wars and such, because it changes public opinion. So yea, I do think the media made sure Obama got elected - going back to my point that they sold out to make sure it happened. And it's surprising to me to see some of them turning on him now.
Fickle lovers
Obama is a great orator, and plays on people's emotions. Take last nights town hall on Healthcare for example, he played on people's emotions to try and sell government run healthcare.
Of course pre-selecting questions is another great way to prep answers specifically to do that.
Give 'em Hell, Helen. :uzi:
p.s. Thank you for the Sarah Palin pin-up.
Lets see some specifics.
In the meantime: NY Times, LA Times, WaPo, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS are all bastions of liberal thought. Ownership may or may not have Republicans on board - which may or may not refute a conspiracy - but the fact of the matter is that the preponderance of reporting from these outlets leans left. In many cases, HARD left.
I suspect it's because the journalism trade (like education) is attractive to people of a certain political bent for some complex, left brain reason that is impossible to quantify.
Such as? John Kerry? There is plenty of argument there! Bush didn't break the country! During Bush verses Kerry, Kerry spoke with his usual grandiose elegant flow of speech consisting of a lot fluff and nothing of substance. As usual, Bush stuttered and stammered but eventually got out good points. Bush got blamed for everything that happened in the world during his tenure. "Bush lied! Kids died!" Soldiers died in Iraq and it was all Bush's fault. And of course there were the Cheney/Haliburton conspiracies perpetuated by the left. We get a new administration and all this talk dies. The troop withdrawals were planned long before the new administration but "the anointed one" will get all the credit. Unfortunately soldiers continue to die but nothing is being said. Haliburton continues to get contracts but nothing is being said. Even with the troop surge in Afghanistan, we're getting bogged down and nothing is being said. Surprise, surprise! No surprise at all!Quote:

Wasn't Helen Thomas the one screaming nut job that kept trying to make Bush say he made mistake about the during one of his addresses at the white house a couple years back???
I am so confused...
