Kidd and Swae Wedding Stuff

Well, a post in another thread inspired me to be a little self-promoting here and throw some info about our wedding up here. We do have a website which sucks so far, (blame it on Kidd!!) but I'm working on getting it up to par. The site is:

We are doing a destination wedding! In our minds, what better way to celebrate our wedding than by having an amazing vacation at a beautiful resort in the Caribbean. We are getting married at the Paradisus Punta Cana in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic followed by a 6 day honeymoon in Negril, Jamaica (you guys can't come to that, sorry).

Our wedding is Friday, July 11, 2008 at 6 pm. We will be arriving in Punta Cana on Tuesday, July 8th and leaving Monday, July 14th.

Anywho been doing my homework and the trip might be possible for the wife and me. I found a flight from Vegas to Punta Cana (with a stop in NC going and Philly coming home) for 1157.00 roundtrip for 2. Do you have a group rate for the hotel cause the best I found was 330.00 a night all inclusive. We would be gettin in on Thurs about 3:15 and leaving on tuesday about 3:15. Got the days off work already so this might be a go. AND THE BEST PART..............NO KIDS! WOOOOOT

To be honest, I don't know the nightly rate. We booked through a travel agent, and my mother's trip is about $1600 for 6 nights with about $500 of that being airfare, so I'd say closer to $200 a night. I did have a friend who got a cheaper rate on orbitz. If you want, email the travel agent and give her your departure/arrival dates, and she'll give you the best rate she can get for the whole package. Just tell her you are part of the Grissom/Farrell wedding. =)

WOOT! Purchase my tickets tonight so there will be a Camel in Punta Cana! The wife and I are very excited to get to go, and thanks for the invite Swae and Kidd! So we get in at 3:24 pm july 10 and leave 3:15 on july 18. The wife and I are going to spend a little extra time in Punta Cana and get to know each other again, if you know what I mean !!

Swae do I need to RSVP formally or is this enough! Is Clay and Pharm going also, might need to warn the wife about those 2 crazy kids

Hey we're going to buy tickets today or tomorrow. We're looking into the activities available in the area, and apparently this is a big SCUBA hot-spot. SCUBA sounds like something fun to try - but the wife and I are not certified. I've heard some hotels and dive shops will offer short courses and then send you in a group with a guide - rather than requiring the full week of certification before hand. Do you know if such is available at our hotel or in the area?

Also, aside from the big day itself, are there any periods we should to set aside for anything already planned?

With my booking thur Swae's travel agent I got free Scuba lessons for certifcation. Appraently the diving is amazing. Let me know Clay what activity's your doing maybe we can do some together.

Wow, that is neato, I wonder if I got the free lessons too...lol. I know that the hotel offers free 'basic lessons' with an instructor led-dive, but I'm not sure if that class would get you SCUBA certification. From what I've read, the SCUBA diving that is available around Punta Cana is beginner level, and that you have to take boat excursions ($$) to get to more advanced diving. Kidd and I *may* get certified here before we go so that we can dive in Jamaica as well, but not sure yet.

As far as other activities, we will likely plan at least 1 thing a day for everyone to get together, but nothing will be mandatory (well, except the wedding!). Most things will be informal get-togethers at resort events (let's all go to the beach wine party!, etc.). I do plan on going on the monster truck excursion but I know not everyone will be interested enough to pay for it or spend all day out. I have heard that it is best to stick to resort-sponsored excursions (ie no hopping in a cab and heading to Santo Domingo), as it is a 3rd world country and you can get ripped off/endangered.

As a side note, there are a lot of organizations that collect basic school supplies for the children in Punta Cana. Many brides/guests bring donations with them, and apparently the airlines will allow you to bring a freight box of donations free of charge if you are affiliated with one of these organizations. I plan on researching this further, as I would be interested in helping the local children if I could.
