    Pussification of America

    Society should be so proud.

The grandmother made a GREAT point - “If I thought they wouldn’t take me to jail I’d whip his behind”.

The boys idea of punishment - No video games for a weekend.

    I guess it's just me....

Well in this case - lack of "parenting" since the grandmother had custody and obviously is afraid of disciplining the kid. All of which are symptoms of our "group huggy" and "everyone is a winner" education system and policies.

Maybe the state should step in to discipline the kid Send him off to a military school for a year, maybe longer depending on the severity.

I dunno, I was raised with the belt, and I totally believe it should still be used. Undisciplined children is a huge problem here, almost makes me want to go live in England, if only I had the money!

Agree. Getting my ass kicked by my dad made me the man I am today.

But there's more than one means to an end. Pay attention to what your kid is doing and correct bad behavior consistently (either by belt or time out) and you avoid having them drive your SUV over mailboxes and small animals.

That statement just totally changed my view on corporal punishment....

I absolutely agree. I don't advocate "beating" kids, but I certainly advocate spanking as necessary and at the very least having consequences for actions that matter. I've seen it too often where the kids just don't listen to the parents because there are no consequences. It's basically "What are you going to do about it?" There is no fear or respect for authority because they know there is no significant consequences to their action. "Time out" in their bedroom. The kid smirks and laughs behind the parents back while they're up in their room talking on the cellphone, or text messaging, or watching TV, or playing their XBOX/Playstation. Oh.. the humanity!!
