FYI, I accomplished that with two XP virtual machines--one with IE6 and one with IE7. I'm running each VM in Unity mode. Being able to test in IE6, IE7, Win/FF, and Mac/FF all at the same time is a huge boon to me.

This stuff is great for developers, or users with vital "must have apps" that they need to run for work, say.

I strongly believe that new adopters should stay away for awhile...maybe a couple months.

And for heaven's sake DON'T do something silly like run outlook in a VMwindow. Stay the hell away from windows browsers. Learn the new conventions and paradigms. Use the Mac apps. Once you master them and internalize the way things are done on the Mac, you'll find you need none of the old crap anymore.

And If gaming is your thing, dual booting is the way to go, because a VM solution is always going to impact you in the types of games you are interested in.

I agree with you, Squidly. These VMs are purely for browser testing; I have no intention of running any other Windows apps unless absolutely necessary. I didn't buy a Mac just so I could go back to using Windows!

I was a UNIX guy stuck in a Windows world until now.

I just got my new MacBook yesterday, and I'm loving the VMware fusion platform. I even have my BootCamp Windows partition running as a virtual machine. The only "gotcha" with doing that is that right now, I have to reload my graphics driver every time I reboot straight into Vista with Boot Camp. Does anyone know a way around that (other than "uninstall Vista"?)

Update: that problem disappeared after the first post-VM boot into Vista. Looks like the OS just needed to get its mind around the difference between the virtual graphics and onboard adapter.

If all goes according to plan, this will be a Microsoft-free zone by year-end.
