Just Ordered one of these Bad Boys...

Woohoo! I got it from Sparco.com (btw, the ONLY site that I could find that had stock)

    http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouse/wie_info.asp

I can't wait for it to get here tomorrow. With overnight shipping (and, yes, it will ship today), it came to $85.61, so, no, it's not cheap, but I know it will be worth EVERY penny.

Looks cool, but other than the extra buttons I'm trying to figure out what it does for ya. Is it the wireless/optical combination that sets it apart?

Yeah, it's basically a wireless Intellimouse Explorer, complete with optical tracking. It also does optical sampling at like 4x the sample rate of the IM Explorer I currently have...it'll be nice to eliminate some cables on the desktop for sure...

Man, I sure am glad I got this mouse. It got here about 2 hours ago and I can't stop using it... It's pretty, comfortable, and WIRELESS! And it tracks about 500% better than the "old" Intellimouse Explorer. The scroll wheel is a little tighter, like from the days of the first generation MS scroll wheel, but it still works as advertised. Installation was a snap:

    1. Unplug old mouse.
    2. Plug in new mouse wireless transceiver thingy.
    3. Use mouse.

No reboot required (at least in Windows 2000)! I think my T2 skillz will be improved by this. The old mouse would stutter many times on fast moves, but now it's silky smooth regardless of the speed of movement. Out of a possible 10, this mouse gets an 11 in my book. No question about it!

Well, my old IntelleMouse explorer bit the dust (I got a little aggravated after some nasty lag cost me a shot in T2 the other night. Got a little too rambuncitous in bouncing it off the desk top with a few choice explitives )

The upshot is that I picked up the MS wireless opticle explorer on Zorro's recommendation and, ya know?, it actually is all that he claims!! Thanks, Z.
(Got it at Office Depot $75.00 + tax).

The accuracy you gain with an optical mouse is amazing. its hard to believe i used some slack assed trackball mouse i used to get mad at when i had to clean the damn thing.

I got it today and tried it out. The right mouse button doesn't seem to respond well when I hit jets. It either doesn't sense it or something. And when it does work I keep jetting after I let go.

The movement is no better than my Logitech cordless Trackball. In some ways the trackball finds position quicker. Neither is just right yet. Are you guys using mouse pads and if not what kind of surface are you using the IntelliMouse.

    Shades

I have the Logitech IFeel mouse. Optical, I could never go back to the balls. Not cordless, all my experience in the past with cordless is that they just aren't great for gaming for me. Not quite resposive enough, sometimes lag in response as NR put it. Some loss of accuracy, etc...

The IFeel mouse works OK for me, and I get that added sensation of force feedback in T2. When you hit the jets, you can FEEL it. When you fire a mortar you can FEEL it. When you pull out your disk launcher you can feel the disk spinning waiting to be launched. It is a hoot, but not all games use it just T2 and Black and White (which I don't play any more).

you need to use a dull, non gloss surface. i use an old skool mouse pad, the soft kind. made of rubber and (i dunno felt or something). suface cant reflect light or be white. try that.

I'm glad You could relate NR. These games aren't supposed to get to us that way, but.....

I like the cordless mouse, but I've found that there is an intermittant lag. Especially if the mouse hasn't been moved for a momment (like if you're waiting for a target to move into postion). That can be frustrating. At the same time, the accuracy is very good for me and once it is moving, it is extremely responsive.

I'm using a cloth covered pad. The cloth is almost like a very short velvet (very smooth but textured)>
