    Question Somethings missing...

For the first time in over a month im ready to play tribes again with you guys and i cant find our servers. (reinstall removed my favorites but not my buddies) so i see bribo in a game. but no one else... despite not playing i kept up with the posts. was there some sort of subliminal "were not having a practise" message somewhere?

Not you Garrett. It just so happens that the latest patch was released today. Zorro was bust at 8:30-9:30 trying to get it on our servers. He finally did (thanks Zorro!) but alas, the patch sucks. We ended up bailing out of practice. Will try again for tomorrow night.

Seems a bit premature to proclaim the "patch sucks".

There's got to be some gap in our understanding. A reason why the menu system no longer allows us to change maps, and why scripts seem to be wacking out. Maybe a server side setting will fix everything.

    Perhaps our "knowledge sucks."

Here's some information from my end:

    1. Script interferance may be as a result of old .dso files. Be sure to delete all .dso files in your dynamix directory.

    2. The unchanging map problem was due to bwadmin. I installed 1.04a (24839 compliant...go figure...), which fixed THAT particular problem.

    3. Patch seems relatively "bug" free, but the new scoring system appears to be broken on the Linux server. This certainly won't interfere with match play and such, but it is a bit annoying... I've submitted a bug report already with Loki.

    4. I've noticed a lot of complaints about lower frame rates with the new patch. I believe this is due to some image quality enhancements that were added, like bump mapping, etc. SW seemed to indicate that turning off/down the high-res shields option in-game will kill the bumps and restore frame rate to usual. Be sure to check for other new options and settings.

Everything else seems to be going pretty smoothly. Sorry for the big/huge confusion this evening. I was assured that the patch would be ready on time, but the new guys at Loki ran into speedbumps all along the way. I finally just gave them a login to one of my FTP servers and they uploaded it there... I'll work to ensure that these kinds of things don't happen so close to a scheduled practice... Thanks!

I hit a server that I pinged 90 to. Map was sanctuary with 34 ppl on it. I was getting a 150 ping in game and FPS of 50-60. That is until I attacked their base and dropped my FPS to 18-24.

Anyway, I hope my route to our server improves 600 is just stupid.

I'm out till Friday afternoon, have fun guys!

So I wasn't crazy when I noticed my FPS drop.

Maybe I was a bit premature in my "patch sucks" statement. Just a bit frustrated last night in not being able to do admin stuff.

One nice thing about patch, disc jumps are improved. You get a much bigger jump and seem to take a little less damage.

Did anyone notice that mortar splash damage seemed to drop a bit? I was spamming spike turrets last night and they seemed a bit tougher to take out.

Are we going to try again for tonight (Thursday 9pm EST?)

My frames dropped from over a 100 to just under 70.
I was also getting UE's all the time (4 PC reboots) until I turned off Roger Wilco.

Patch Postives - I love the shrike acceleration. Top speed seems about the same, and energy drain as well, but you can get movin' from a stop a lot easier.

I also liked the out of bounds barrier.

I need to play with some settings - my skins and stuff were all black.

    Question

I was on for a bit last night and noticed that the environment looked much better because of the texture improvements. I didn't notice any fps problems but I have several questions I hope you guys can help me with:

    1) How do you check fps in T2?

    2) Although I selected Diamond Sword armor... I was always showing up in the base settings for armor. Is this determined from the server?

    3) I have never really used any scripts. What kind of scripts are you guys using?

    Thanks guys,

    Scott

I use scripts called FPS HUD and Ping HUD to display the current FPS and PING in little boxes on the upper right hand side of my screen.

I also have a statistics gathering script loaded, but I wonder how it will work now that they've changed everything.

Don't remember where I got these - perhaps my tribemates will chime in with the links.

Good questions from the new recruit.

The direct way to check FPS is to hit the tilde (~) key to pull up the console, then type:

    show("$fps::real");

Sombody correct me if I've missed a character in there. That's from memory.

The easier way to monitor FPS is to install Panama Jack's big bundle o' scripts. He's got a feature in there that will show your FPS, ping, speed, and some other stuff. If you're new to scripts, PJ is the best way to start. Just be sure to install the support pack before you do the all in one pack. PJ even gives you a desktop icon to make it easier to delete your .dso files. Always delete your .dso files when you mess with scripts or patches.

You can find PJ's scripts at:
    http://www.planettribes.com/pj/t2downloads.asp

While PJ's scripts are pretty thorough, there are other things out there that you might want. It's an odd feature of Tribes that the best players must spend a certain amount of time per week messing with scripts instead of actually playing the game. I use some features from the Wizpack and a few tyings from Crunchy. You can find those here:

    http://mods.tribalwar.com/wizard/wizpack/

    and here:

    http://scripts.tribalwar.com/crunchy/

Beyond those widely available scripts, AK uses some things that are a little harder to find. There's a mortar reticle that increases your accuracy, and then there's a script called autopoints that gives you waypoints to your teammates. I'm not sure if those are publicly available, but I'm sure someone will email them to you if you ask. They may also be available on the ftp server, but I'm not sure how to use that.

It's still unclear to me which scripts, if any, will cause problems when the server is locked down per TWL requirements. We should make our AK servers comply with TWL regulations as soon as possible to ensure that all players can connect and work out any bugs that these scripts/skins could cause.

Our server comply with TWL rules now. So, if it was working last night, it's fine for competition. The biggest thing was making sure you delete your .dso files, IMHO.
