    Help me

    So motherboard on my machine took a dump last night. Think my video card did the same. Im stuck at verifing DMI pool data and wont even turn on most of the time. Im going to salavage what I can and put most of the parts in my old stand-by comp whichis what I will be playing on till I get my new one. Apple atm is out of my price range so I put this together which clocks in at about $1400 which I can afford and should be a good system for a couple years.

    What I need to know first is will all these componets mesh. I checked myself and I think they will but would like a second opinion. Second if anyone has any suggestions on different hardware which might be better or mesh better. Thanks in advance!

    Camel we've peiced a few boxes together in the past few months on here for folks. Check out this thread...

    I don't see a problem with any of the gear you picked out. It looks like it should make you one good gaming rig. My only suggestion is if your going to buy a SLI supported Vid card you might as well pick up a motherboard that is SLI ready in case you decide to add a
    2nd Video card in the future. That mobo might be I didn't look but other than that it looks good.

    Camel,

    Just my thoughts... but I think the best video card for the money on the market is the ATI 4850 / 4870. I have an 8800GTS 512mb myself and have been contemplating buying the 4870 (which is 2 slot and exhausts the heat out of the case).

    Additionally... there is very little that supports Quad core at the moment and unless you plan on experimenting with overclocking - you may want to stick with Dual Core and save a few bucks. I have a Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4Ghz that I'm running at 3.0Ghz. You'd probably be better off getting a faster clocked Dual Core at this point than a slower clocked Quad Core.

    Here is my current system:

    UNIT-1

    * Windows VISTA 64-Bit / XP Professional
    * Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz LGA 775 Processor
    * ZALMAN CNPS9500 LED 2 Ball Cooling Fan with Heatsink
    * ASUS P5K-E/WIFI-AP LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard
    * CORSAIR XMS2 4GB (4 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel RAM
    * Antec Performance One P180B Black ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
    * BFG GS-650 Power Supply
    * EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GTS 512mb Video Card
    * Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer 7.1 Sound Card
    * DELL UltraSharp 2005FPW 20.1-inch Wide Aspect Flat Panel LCD Monitor with Height Adjustable Stand
    * HP Scanjet 4670

    there is very little that supports Quad

    Now not sure what you mean. I checked and the motherboard does support the quad. So what other hardware would I have issues with? Also the mobo, from the over 200 reviews has an easy overclocking software that comes with it and most say they can get 3.0-3.8 out of it no problem. I do want to mess with overclocking, and this board at least sounds like a good beginners card to mess with. One issue and I think all mobo have is they said the NB gets hot but nothing a little paste and fan cant handle. With the SLI, I have one at the moment 2 6800gt, but I was reading that one card with this setup for what I do would be sufficante. Im going with the sli card in case I hate the mobo and change or I go a different route in the future. Again thanks for the help!

    I think he was referring to software support for quad core not hardware Camel.

    I'm referring to the fact that very little out there takes advantage of Dual Core, let alone Quad Core is all. It's not a compatibility issue at all. If you weren't overclocking, it would make more sense to get a faster clocked Dual Core than a slower clocked Quad Core.

    HY thanks buddy, I started to do some homework after you posted. I am much more informed now than I was. Pretty much everyone says the same thing you did about quad vs duel. I now understand the diffrence, and can now make an informed desicison.

    Not a problem bud... have fun and good luck. I just did some research about a month ago as I was upgrading my PC. I was really behind the times on the latest CPU and motherboards.

    So I ordered this yesterday, cant wait for it. I did my homework and ths is the rig for me. I went with the quad core for several reasons, the biggie is multiple applications at once. I went without SLI, for heat issues, next rig im going water cooling. Im probly going to give this rig to my kids in the next year. Also 22" LCD, i have never been bigger that 19! Also 8 gb of ram should be fun :P

    How's your rig working out Camel? I'm getting ready to order mine, am in particular curious how the noise level is working out - sometimes those power supplies and fans get louder than you really want.

    The rig is amazing. This is the coolest and quietest case and system I have ever owned. Antec really out did themseleves with the 900 case. I really love the cpu cooler, so quite. I have a zalman in my other rig and the arctic freeze 7 keeps the cpu cooler than my other rig. I idle at 25c with load 34c. The mother board is so easy to overclock I have the cpu at 3hz with one button. The raptor HD is much quiter than my previous Raptor, they must have made some chages. ALL IN ALL the best rig I have built to date and a recommendation to all! IMO 8 gigs to run vista 64 bit is the only way to go. The other rig I just built only has 4 gigs and can really tell the diffence!

    Here's what I'm eyeing up. I've been out of the game on this for a while, so just sort of picked parts that looked cutting edge-ish.

    The motherboard has on-board sound - is this sufficient or do folks recommend picking up a separate sound card?

    Is the video beefy enough?

    Mistake not to get a Blue Ray drive?
