    Windows 7

    What a friggen mess.

I don't agree with the conclusion of this story at all. The windows interface is confusing and cluttered as hell.

    I like it.

But I also love VISTA-64. I have yet to have a single crash or issue in anything in V64. Rock Solid.

Hylander your one of the few that actually paid attention and running the version of Vista that actually does what it's supposed. None of the 32bit versions of Vista work correctly.

I ran 32-bit Windows Vista Home Basic with no problems. I only upgraded to Vista 64 because I wanted to use all 4 gigs of my memory.

Why does this look like Vista?

That upsets me, but I guess some sacrifices have to be made to steal more of Apple's ideas.

Likewise.....I also use the 32-bit version of Vista and have had no issues.....it took a bit of getting used to all the "are you sure?.....Really?....." prompts. But I have to say. Its the longest I have had any version of Windows up without it melting down.

I was anti-vista based on a lot of reviews. However, when I built my new rig I went with Vista 64 and haven't had a single crash or a suffered any hardware install problems due to driver errors. My only bitch is that it's really slow on network shares (something to do with scanning the whole share). I run Vist64 on my primary PC and WinXP on both my Home Theater PC and my 2 laptops (again, primarily due to network performance)

Windows 7 looked nice; I especially like the changes to the gadget/side bar.

My point isn't that Windows 7 won't work, or that all iterations of Vista are useless.

My point is that Windows was, is - and it seems - will continue to be, a user interface NIGHTMARE.

Your file browser has 3 panes, and 3 menus/tabs. Under the "Search Documents" field, there are 3 buttons, 2 of which are completely ambiguous as to their function. There's a superfluous Windows 7 icon on the lower left,
A bunch of online/offline status crap that 99% of windows users neither use or care about. "Offline status: Online" WHAT THE HELL PEOPLE?

Pathetic. And so typically, traditionally, spectacularly, Microsoft.

Agreed..... I still run XP Pro on every computer in my arsenal. I refuse to move to Vista if for nothing else but its too cluttered. If I could still run DOS on my box at home and play WoW I would !

The draw to the MAC brand is getting stronger and stronger. Now when I figure out how to Load OS X on my rig at home I'll be in business.

Hmmm .... Don't see anything about loading OS X on my PC. The instances I've read about loading it are hacked to death which doesn't appeal to me anymore than the price tag on a new Mac.

Heh, sorry, you won't. It was a snide comment about buying a Mac.

That's really the only way to go (but trust me, you won't be sorry if you do.)

Window 7 is vista hopefully with fixes. It's a major re-release of vista thats works. Balmer talks to us about it 2 weeks ago in Fla. Time will tell, but I would install vista and not xp at this stage of the game. I just hate to cost of the tiered approach. home, pre, ulitimate.. etc. I have had no issue with DX10 and vista. Works well, runsfairly quickly and has some neat parental controls built in. Its also hard to get used too if you are an XP power user. I can never find what I need quickly. I know its in there, just cant find without 500 clicks of the mouse, too Bill's point above. If you have the cash, Mac's are awesome and fun.

As with most things in life, you get what you pay for. Macs are built by design experts, and the software was built to work with the hardware specifically. OSX doesn't have to figure out how to deal with the motley mix of peripherals that Windows does.

It also doesn't have the abominably bad taste that's evident throughout the Microsoft UI design.
