I was always 100% against all 're-imaging' of iconic movies, series, etc. But then BSG came along and just totally blew that out of the water. I went into watching BSG intending to hate it, ridicule it, and hold it in contempt for not sticking with the original. I was wrong on that account big time.

As long as it's done 'right', I don't have a problem with it. Although that trailer brought tears to my eyes. Destroying a corvette like that...

Reworking classic shows works better when the rework is significantly different.

The original BSG was campy. So making a modern version that didn't cut corners and was dead serious in tone was a good idea. This version of Star Trek has the potential to do the same...take well worn, well loved, and yes campy material, and play it straight.

So long as the writing and acting hold up, we may be surprised.

Have you forgotten about John Carpenter's 1982 remake of The Thing?
