If you want to go down this road, lets get the figures correct:
The game has been out 4 years. There has been 3 batches of content, not 8.

So:


39.99 (Launch)
142.89 (First Year - first month free)

155.88 (Second Year)

39.99 (Burning Crusade)
155.88 (Third Year)

39.99 (WOTLK)
155.88 (Fourth Year)

Total = 119.97 + 610.53 = $730.50

$731 for 4 years of gaming. Sounds like a lot, and it is.

Now lets compare to the "gaming treadmill". Talk to most hardcore gamers and they go through a game or more a month. The numbers you quote are NON-TYPICAL for most hardcore gamers. And games generally run from $39.99 to $59.99.

So figure 12 months as follows
4 x $39.99 = 159.96
4 x $49.99 = 199.96
4 x $59.99 = 239.96

Total = 599.88

4 year cost = $2399.52

So compare $2399.52 to $751.00

Even with games gifted, games that last for more than a month, and cheaper than $39 games, that's a LOT of ground to cover to come close to the gaming cost of WoW.

Maybe you can get by on 3 or 4 games a year. Good on ya. For most of us, the larger figure I quoted has been a way of life for a long time. In fact, 1 game a month is a joke... try 2 or 3 or more. That's how I rolled before WoW.

No, WoW + Expansions is not the only game I've played, but it's been cheaper than if I was on my former 1-4 game a month treadmill.

And I don't see how my post "proved" your point, unless your point is that you're happy with 4 years of the same 3-4 non subscription games.

squid is correct. I found WoW to be cheaper than other PC gaming over the long haul.

Nuts, if Beaker and I will pick up the expansion next week. We'll level up with you. Being a spport/tank type guy, I suggest you roll a Deathknight, palidin, or Druid. If you roll a Druid, be sure to name it spotted oil, you California nut.
