    Updated to reflect:

President Obama will not attend this year's dinner next Saturday, March 21st. He will be the first president since Grover Cleveland not to attend the first Gridiron Club Dinner of his presidency. The Gridiron Club was founded in 1885 and this year will be the 124th dinner.

I understand your concerns about Obama's policy and the general direction he is taking the country, but him not going to a dinner? Really? Seems to me there are a LOT more important things for him to be doing than going to a media dinner...

Funny how the Great Depression, WWI, WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War , 9/11 didn't stop the other presidents.

Comparing the new president to Hitler may be emotionally satisfying for some, but remember how annoying it was when the ignorant lefties did that to Bush for 8 years straight?

To me, when someone pulls the Hitler card, it means that person is grasping at straws and has to resort to saying someone is virtually the antiChrist to make his point. I know that’s not the case here, as there is plenty to criticize about Obama, but he’s no Hitler.

I’m sure there are a lot of quotes from other European Socialists/Communists that are also very close to things that Obama has said, without visiting the Hitler quotation book. The simple fact is that fascism IS socialism, and a proponent of either sounds eerily like the other.

Again I say, so what? How does him attending this dinner help the American people? Does his non-attendance hurt us in any way or deprive us of something?

This is what bothers me most about the anti-Obama crowd. The people that point fingers at the Obama supporters and call them "sheeple" and compare them to "messiah-worshipers" then turn around and call Obama Hitler.

I don't think I am wording this in a way that makes much sense - but I guess what I mean is that the Obama-haters are just as prejudiced and zealotous as the Obama-lovers. One group calls him the messiah, and the other group calls him Hitler.

*note - not necessarily pointing fingers at anyone here, just a general observation.

Valid point. I don't think I was calling him Hitler in as much as saying that if you are going to stop doing X, then do X, then say no more X... it's just hypocritical.... like if Hitler said 'no more gassing the Jews'.

The man ran under a campaign promise to stop wasteful spending and specifically called out earmarks. He then said during his recent press brief that there will be no earmarks. He is now signing a bull full of earmarks and wasteful spending submitted by people that are on his staff and in his party and yet he has the gall to say, we will not have anymore wasteful spending. I call BS.

However, I will say that the man's economic plan stinks of Nazi Fascism.

Noting here that Wikipedia is NOT the best source for information, but Bush attended the Gridiron Club meeting 6 times during his eight-year presidency. That means he skipped at least a couple of them.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gridiron_Club

And the Gridiron Club is essentially just a chummy group of the Washington newspaper/media bureau heads. It's their annual "schmooze with politicians" event. A tradition, yes, but crucial? No.

To me, it simply demonstrates Obama's desire to break from traditional Presidential events and protocol. From missing the Hero's Inaugural Ball to having the Military band play Sting, Obama looks like he's trying to mix things up a bit and I don't agree with it.

The Hilter card is an instant credibility killer. Hate to say it, because someday the guy in charge really COULD be a Hiltler. But as Ab said, is so overused it's usually an indication that someone has flown off the handle.

Obama is no Hitler. Frankly, he's not that competent. Internationally, I'm not liking what I'm seeing.

So far he's managed to stumble a little with our relations with England, by improperly recieving/respecting the PM. Subtle example - that's not significant on it's face, but an indicator: The PM gave Obama a wooden pen and box, made from the wood of an English warship used to combat the slave trade in the Atlantic. Obama gave the PM a few Hollywood DVD's - that anyone could get at the corner store. When an English staffer commented to an Obama staffer that the reception overall was less than they typically expect, the response was: What makes you think England is so special? We've got 190 countries to recieve here. Nice.

He's doing a poor job with India - another HUGE US ally, by putting the brakes on the delivery of a bought and paid for warship. Because Pakistan doesn't approve. Again, great way to piss off your firends for no gain.

I've been trying to refrain from constantly bitching about the guy, as I don't want to be one of those hateful type people. Unfortunatly, I'm continuing to wait for signs of competency to lead a nation.

Obama ran on the "CHANGE" platform. He was going to re-make Washington. No more business as usual.

The actions of his first fifty days have demonstrated that this was just campaign rhetoric. Empty promises. It's still business as usual.

Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.

I didn't compare Obama to Hitler. I simply created a story to highlight blatant and stupid hypocrisy.

More info on having injured soldier and sailors procure their own healthcare: Looks like Obama hopes to generate revenue from this. How completely vile and disgusting.

"It became apparent during our discussion today that the President intends to move forward with this unreasonable plan," said Commander David K. Rehbein of The American Legion. "He says he is looking to generate $540-million by this method, but refused to hear arguments about the moral and government-avowed obligations that would be compromised by it."

I find it amusing that those that voted for the guy have avoided this thread like the plague.

Every Bush bashing received a prompt response supported by facts....

I guess fiction truly is stranger than the truth.
