Hate crimes: I hate the term "Hate Crimes". I crime is a crime is a crime regradless of the motivation behind it. (ex. Joe kills John during a robbery should be the same as Joe kills John because he hate's blacks) Same crime. By bringing "hate" into the equation we blur justice with emotion.
Domestic violence: Any intentional, physical act harming an individual within the confines of a home or family environment.

So by your definition shooting a burgler would be Domestic Violence? I have to disagree.
Hate Crimes - Commiting a crime on the basis of Race, Religion, or Sexual orientation.
Domestic Violence - Physical abuse (can take many forms) of a family member in your household. Typically refers to spousal beating.

Hate Crimes: Act of violence committed against a person without knowing the individual personally based on sex, religion, race, or political and social views
Domestic Violence: Any act of violence unwillingly or unlawfully committed against another person other than for self defense. Willing violence I guess could be boxing or other form of sports.
