    Mexican Swine Flu outbreak

    This thing sounds very nasty.

The worst flu pandemic in history was the 1918 flu, which had a mortality rate of 2.5%. In Mexico, reports that I've seen (unconfirmed) are 68 deaths out of 1000 cases - which is 6.8% mortality rate.

    Here's where it gets interesting:

The first case was seen in Mexico on April 13. The outbreak coincided with the President Barack Obama’s trip to Mexico City on April 16. Obama was received at Mexico’s anthropology museum in Mexico City by Felipe Solis, a distinguished archeologist who died the following day from symptoms similar to flu, Reforma newspaper reported. The newspaper didn’t confirm if Solis had swine flu or not.
Think President Biden. I pray President Obama has a very healthy April and May.

Regardless, being a frequent traveler just made things a little bit more interesting. Time to be Mr. Hygiene while on the road.

Speaking of world travel, there's a chance I may be traveling to Liberia this year for work. Anyone ever been there?

I'd avoid going if all possible regardless though. Africa is a mess.

I recommend getting your immunizations for:
    Hep A
    Hep B
    Tetnus
    Tiphoid
    Menengitis
    Yellow Fever
    and now, Flu.

Some of those have a 3 month incubation for the immunization, so best to start these conversations now.

Also, bring Malaria pills as well as Dysentery pills. Work should pay for all of the above.
    (and an IUD)

With that, I give you good odds of returning home alive and with no long term harm. On a positive note, I believe Liberia is one of the leading world suppliers of the chocolate bean.
