Yesterday I was in need of a little shopping therapy, so I went to Gamestop (hooray!). I came home with a used PS2 (yes, 2, not 3) and a couple of games. I had to FORCE myself to go to bed last night and not stay up playing the damned thing - it's that fun!

So, I picked up 3 games, a LOTR game, FFX, and GTA: Vice City. Seeing as I'm console retarded and haven't bought one since I was 8, what games should I not miss? Since the average price of used PS2 games at my local gamestop is about 9 bucks, I'm planning on buying everything that might be fun.

What amazing PS2 games did you love back when PS2s were actually cool?

Baldur's Gate is still one of my favorites for the PS2. Both you and Kidd can both play cooperatively as well. Great game.

I'm close to getting a Wii. My wife really wants one so I'll probably pick one up in the next couple of weeks.

If you dont get God of War and God of War 2 I will have to disown you both. You must play them, enjoy them, and crave for more when you complete them.

These 2 games alone are reason enough to purchase a PS2

I'll probably end up splurging on a new system like a Wii sometime soon, but I wanted to dip my toes in and make sure I even enjoy console gaming before shelling out the big bucks.

I got ya beat on the old console - my last (and only) is a Sega Master System.

I hate playstation and just about everything Sony :P, but from word of mouth and all that blah blah, God of War is an amazing game (all 4 games, I think there's 2 for PS, 1 for PS3 and 1 for psp).

Baldur's Gate I'vehad for over 10 years for PC and still play it every weekend, not sure if the console version is as big, but the pc version still has stuff I need to play through to explore/discover.

I've been hoping that someone would come up with a Wii type system, with the motion sensitive controllers, but with the graphics and power of a Playstation 3. Has that been done yet? My biggest complaint with the Wii is that the graphics are pretty coarse, compared to what a more powerful system can do. It's a non-item with most of the Wii games, but if you want to play a 3rd party action game, you'll definitely notice it.

If your looking for an RPG to play I cannot recommend enough Dragon Quest VIII. It is one of the best RPG's you'll play for a long time. It's a cell shaded style game but it's done perfectly. Some other games really worth checking out are the God of War games, Katamari Damachei, Resident Evil 4, Persona 3:FES, Disgaea and Disgaea 2.

One final note, check out all three of the Kingdom Hearts games. It blends the Square universe characters with Disney very well.

The 2 Baldur Gate games for the ps2 were great for two back in the day. Nothing like the pc version really, they were action oriented.

You and Kidd will have a good time with this one. There's not much role playing element in the PS2 version but it is a hack'n slashfest that is fun, fun, fun!

IMO - Consoles are hard to top for basic combat games. I'd strongly recommend one of Tekkans, probably the most recent you can get in the used section.
