LENOX, Ala. — A Conecuh County man armed with an Uzi firearm was critically injured Sunday morning when an ongoing property dispute turned violent.

Witnesses said an altercation between George Dewayne Green and Garth D. Morris erupted with Green armed with an Uzi and Morris a shotgun.

Investigators said Morris shot Green in the shoulder with buckshot, and Green was taken by helicopter to a Pensacola hospital, where he remained in critical condition late Sunday with an injury to the shoulder.

Green and his family have been involved in a property dispute for more than a year involving Morris and Paul C. Battle, court records show.

A judge ruled in favor of Battle months ago, but the Green family appealed the ruling. Green filed an eviction case against Morris in May, and that case is still ongoing.

Conecuh County Sheriff Edwin Booker said Morris was charged with assault in Sunday's shooting and remained in the Conecuh County Jail.

Investigators would not say whether Green's Uzi was fully automatic or semi-automatic. Ownership of fully automatic firearms requires a federal permit.

Produced since the 1950s, the Israeli-made Uzi was designed as a fully automatic submachine gun for military and police use. A semi-automatic carbine version is also available. The carbine requires no special permits. http://www.al.com/news/press-registe...960.xml&coll=3
