Played the Flash preview game... looks pretty cool, although the combat gets a bit repetitious.

I'm about an hour in and I'm not really digging it yet. This plays exactly like all the other Bioware games out there, which isn't a bad thing, but it's not exactly a good thing either. The whole chat and menu system is long in the tooth and seems really recycled. The graphics are okay, but not to the quality of video clip previews I've seen recently. I'll half to play some more but as of right now I feel a little bit cheated.

I'm being a bit too critical, I guess I'm just letting my personal preferences dictate my thoughts on the game. The story is actually really getting good now. Plus i'm still trying to get used to playing a game on the PC again :-P

Tough to adapt to a superior platform.

It sounds like the PC version is the way to go for the alternative top-down perspective alone. Also, the keyboard mappings make playing the game a lot easier, from what I've read.

Alright, first off, Squidly is 100% correct, I've been controller dependent for way too long now. Second, Palooka is also correct with the key mappings and view perspective. The first hour or so I played this morning, I was really regretting my purchase. I really did feel cheated by how the game was setup and played. Then once you get moving along and the game progresses it really squashes any buyers doubt right out of the way.
The learning curve is somewhat on par with the PC version of Baldurs Gate II. Real time and turn based controls are configured with ease with the push of the spacebar. The Function keys allow for quick character switching, and the numeric keys offer fast spell and inventory abilities (Ala WoW and Titan Quest)
What started as a phail turned quickly into an awesome. I'm not only glad I picked up Dragon Age, I'm also glad I picked up the PC version.

I've been playing it for about a week now, don't seem to be anywhere near the half way point yet either. I'm loving it, the NPC interaction is my favorite so far. You'll be travelling from place to place and you'll hear the NPC's bantering with each other, without pausing the game and putting up a dialogue screen, (too bad so sad, you don't get to pitch in sometimes :-P).

I also like the gift idea for the NPC's and the story/battles give it that extra epic feeling that really makes me love this game. The only thing I wish was different is that I could have a further over the shoulder perspective, or even top down, it's too constricted for me, (tight spaces baaaaad).

The start was slow like stitches said, but I focused more on the development of the story since 50% of the first 2 hours was actually cutscenes, (not in a bad way), helped move the story along and introduce the principle characters. For replay value, esc skips dialogue/actions in cutscenes.

This brings me to my last point.... they programmed the NPC's to... ACT. Yes, the NPC's have facial expressions, move around, swing their arms at you and what not, they don't just stand there with expressionless faces and lips moving when they talk. It's pretty awesome.
