Current and future state of PC gaming

Even big PC game developers are pessimistic. At this rate, we're going to have to become an XBox 360 Live gaming organization. I know that would make Stitch happy, but....dang.

I think STEAM is really the only hope out there... but in the end, we'll probably end up with crappy ported XBOX games if anything.

I would be fine with a 'console', as long as it allowed keyboard, mouse, and other controllers along with the ability for software updates, add-ons, etc. Think of STEAM on the XBox / PS3 with the same abilities you have now on the PC in terms of the gaming itself. That way, you have the stable platform - but all the functionality that makes the PC games superior (IMHO).

I could deal with that too. Hell, you can buy a console for the same price as just the graphics card in your average gaming PC.

The last few years of my avid Console gaming 360/PS3, have been very rewarding to me. I've made some great friends, have had some amazing times playing co-op and multi-play based games. As well as experiencing some wonderful single player games. Account/Friend list management, voice communications and everyone being on the same playing field has been a total breath of fresh air. I've been moving a bit more towards playing PC games again, really because I have missed alot of you guys, and because my dual boot MAC/PC is a rather nice powerhouse and can run games like Crysis and Bad Company 2 at full detail at 1920x1200.
