PC vs Console

Crytek co-founder Cevat Yerli spoke recently about the growing gap between modern PCs and consoles like the PS3 and Xbox 360, saying that the desire to develop for multiple platforms is hampering creative expression. "PC is easily a generation ahead right now. With 360 and PS3, we believe the quality of the games beyond Crysis 2 and other CryEngine developments will be pretty much limited to what their creative expressions is, what the content is. You won't be able to squeeze more juice from these rocks."

One reason this trend persists is because of the perception that PC game sales are not high enough for most developers to focus on that platform. Rock, Paper, Shotgun says this indicates a need for the disclosure of digital distribution sales numbers, which could dispel that myth. Yerli's comments come alongside news of Crytek's announcement of a new military-based shooter called Warface.

Game copying and pirating (something I was famous for years ago) is so rampant that it's very hard for developers to turn a profit. Adding copy protection and online validation checking only causes PC owners to rage and flame developers for adding it. Yet PC gamers are always upset because so many games are out for consoles now.

Think about it for just a moment, with a console version of a game, everyone is on the same playing field. Everything looks the same, controls are the same. Cheating is very very low unless exploits are found in game. The clear winner in terms of multi-player games for the most part is consoles right now. PC gaming for single-player and MMO related games if you have a good system of course edges out consoles.

For me as everyone has known for years and has busted on me (Looks at Hy, Bribo and Squid) I've been a hardcore Xbox and Playstation 3 gamer. YES some games do not look as good on the console as it does on the PC. But when you have a 56" TV with a HDMI connection it's a hard act to follow (Unless you drag your PC into the living room)

Sounds too much like an Apple argument for me to accept.

There is no such thing as Sim Racing on a console, so until the console matures and doesn't end up being 5 years behind a PC in terms of processing power, I will always be a PC Gamer and Sim Racer first. People might say they don't want to buy a new console every year or other year to keep up with the hardware capabilities, but a straight console with no new accessories or bundle (as long as they make them backwards compatible) shouldn't cost anymore than new high end video cards these days.
