    A 'hypothetical' XP question ....

Hey guys ... quick question. Suppose you were to hypothetically download a 504-megabyte executable for a certain new operating system from Morpheus.

The exe file does not appear to be a ZIP format. When you attempt to run it, it says the program is too big to fit into memory.

Hypothetically speaking, what would you do then? :-)

    Thanks,

It's likely an iso file with the extension changed. Just rename the file and then use Easy CD Creator or something to burn it to CD. It's bootable and everything...

Hmmm ... Hypothetically that was an ISO file, of a site-based XP install with serial number. However, it is not compatible with this "Enternet" crap that manages my dynamic DSL IP address, so I will have to wait for Efficient Networks to update their software. Grrrr. Nice of XP to inform me of the problem before installation, though.

Or get a router and let it handle the PPPoE garbage. There are some reasonably cheap but good ones out there (SMC Barricade, Lynksys, etc).

Or, better yet for a single connection, use RASPPPoE instead of Enternet (which has always been garbage).

Ab, I was doing some more digging in WinXP and found that it has built in PPPoE support. I have no idea how good it is but it can be setup via the network configuration wizard.
