Squidly, I wasn't sure if you saw my post or not, but I was wondering if your parents were in the Military because of how much you moved around when you were younger.....

My father was in the marines before I was born, but we moved around a lot because he worked for a Natural Gas company, and his job involved helping install new facilities overseas (North Africa, SE Asia.)

    DD,

Radford University is in Radford, Virginia. It's part of the Virginia State Univesity System. It's down in the Southwest corner, South of Roanoke. Or about 10 minutes from Blacksburg (Virginia Tech).

    Bribo,

I was born and raised in Elmira, NY. (Armpit of the State along the PA border )

Small world, Hy...my grandparents live in Painted Post (less than 10 miles from Elmira). I have fond memories of Watkins Glen and the Corning area.

I'm not sure how long my Dad was in the service. I got to where I could read/write/speak French fluently, and knew enough Arabic to piss people off, but those days are long, long gone. I can read french (so long as I have a french dictionary handy) but that's about it. I imagine it'd come back with some work.

We lived in Algeria for 4 years and Malaysia for two.

Was it hard living in those two places???
I would imagine the culture is totally different from ours....
One of the many places I visited in the Marines was Morrocco.....
It was more different from American culture than any other country we trained in.....

    DD,

I don't think living in 3 places during my 30 years is too much moving. Only averaging a city every 10 years! LOL I ended up in Bethlehem because of my wife She was born, raised, and lived her entire life here. BTW.. I happen to work in New Jersey so I guess you can add that to my "travels"! 45 min each way. I like the Lehigh Valley alot though. 45min to Philly, 1 1/2 hours to NY City. Large enough for the amenities and small enough to avoid most of the large city problems.

    Beast,

Ah yes... I actually took some classes at Corning Community College. This was before I moved to Virginia and decided to get serious about my education. I didn't really start college until I was 21. Lets put it this way, I got an "F" in economics at the Community College and ended up graduating from Radford with Economics as one of my degrees! LOL

I also have very fond memories of Watkins Glen as it was my home track when I use to race in the SCCA. My family actually still owns an old cottage and some land up on Waneta Lake (Finger Lakes).

    "Your Dad was a Marine???"

Surely, you know better than to say such a thing.

I say that because you should well know he didn't CEASE being a Marine upon discharge of active duty. Do I have to drag your ass back to SOI for some remedial training?

Some good, some bad. On balance, I wouldn't trade the experience
