    Question Laptops

Hola once again. I'm kinda in the market right now for a laptop for my trip to college an whatnot... any suggestions like company or do any of you own one? I know all I ever do is ask questions on here... but this computer SUCKS and I can't play many online games, but hopefully I'll join you guys in a game soon enough... but of course under a new alias Well any help is appreciated, I've looked at Toshibas mainly because they dominate the market and their machines are cheaper... I really want a 1.4 or 1.6 Ghz and a pretty good vid card, and a 44 inch plasma monitor and a T1.... but I'll settle for the first two.
Yeah, it's me Donkeyballs... new name, same game :-P

    no, but L337Hosting is L337...

As far as laptops go, I'd recommend anything with a combination of a GeForce3go and an AMD Mobile Athlon. The mobile Athlons kick P4M's to the curb for a good old fashioned police-brutality kind of beatin', which throws Dell out of the picture (since they don't "do" AMD...dude...). At minimum, you'll want a 15" Active Matrix display and something with a DVD-ROM/CDRW combo would be nice. I can't really recommend any brands, but last I looked at laptops, Toshiba had a nice looking setup available at Best Buy that I liked a lot... But that was back in the days of GeForce2go's and whatnot...

Failing a x86-based solution, I'd REALLY REALLY recommend a Ti-Book if that's in the budget. OSX is some kind of wonderful and those new 800MHz Power Books are unabashedly, screamin' fast...

Non-AMD solutions work just fine "dude"...more than enough power for anything you're going to do on a laptop. Dell's lineup is extremely solid and their support is excellent.

So put that in your AMD pipe and smoke it.

And as you say, the Titanium iBook is awesome, if cost is no object.

I was thumbing through the Dell spammed catalog I get every couple of months (probably from that one time I ordered a single replacement screw last year because the free shipping on a $0.01 item was too hard to resist) and noticed that there's a Dell laptop (Inspiron 8200) that sports a GeForce4 440 Go... That's pretty cool... Now if they'd just team that with an Athlon, it'd be a rockin' setup... (dude)

For a laptop solution (dudes) a non-AMD solution is "just fine".

I've only heard good things about Alienware systems. They're on the upper end of the price spectrum, IIRC, but if you can afford it, it's said to be well worth it.

I'm just always concerned about systems you can purchase at your local BestBuy. They stock Alienware there.

I've been to Alienware twice this year. They are one of my customers now. Fun place...would love to work there just to get my hands on their new systems.

I'd love to hear more about Alienware. I've been toying with the thought of buying another laptop, mine is getting dated. I'll also be ready to purchase a new desktop system within a year. Micron current powers my desktop needs and it's the 3rd Micron I've owned, been very happy with the platform. I'm trying to see if there is anything Alienware can sway me with to move away from Micron.
