Computer Soon I will become more powerful than you an possibly imagine...

...Well, not really. I signed up for DSL today. It should be hooked up and ready just in time for BF1942. The dialup just couldnt cut it in the demo, or anywhere else for that matter. Hopefully, BF1942 takes off like T2, I'd love to be a part of the a new craze, seeing as I missed out on some prime T2 gaming.

And you'll be on that blazin' fast dorm connection too, eh Slaughter? I guess I'll be the last Knight still stuck on dialup. At this point DSL doesn't appear to be available in my neighborhood, and cable isn't really an option since I switched my TV service to DirecTV. *sigh* Oh well, at least I got my phone connection fixed, and can connect at a reasonable speed.

Of course, between the classes, the parties, and the ladies, we may not see Slaughter again until the holidays...or Jackle, for that matter.

My cable provider, Time Warner cable, will allow you to be a RoadRunner cable modem customer but NOT be a cable TV subscriber. You might want to check with your cable company to see if they allow this.

    I can't imagine a life without broadband.

Comcast will allow it, but they charge an obscene amount for cable internet ($70 a month, I believe) if you're not a cable TV subscriber. That, plus I despise Comcast and their horrible customer service, and don't really want to give them one thin dime of my money if I can help it.

Have you looked into getting connection through DirectTV? I'm pretty sure they have that available, and usually its about the same price as cable.

DirecTV resells DSL connections. So, no dice yet. I'm hoping they get it hooked up soon, but I have this feeling that the phone companies will look to the surrounding (wealthier) neighborhoods before they make DSL available in my neck of the woods.

How about getting basic cable for your locals. You can plug that right into the back of your D* receiver and not have to worry about missing your favorite episodes of Friends or whatever... Then you could get a deal on the cable internet...

(Man, I'm just shooting holes in everything suggested to me today.)

I'd like to, but I committed to buying my local channels from DirecTV. It's way cheaper to add it into the package than it is to keep basic cable. Besides, Comcast has basically demonstrated to me that they care nothing about customer service--I have it in for them pretty good right now. I'm just going to be an HPB for a little while longer and wait for DSL to come to my town.

I know around here you can order up cable internet and then cancel your cable TV and still have basic cable to watch while you surf

You used to be able to do that with Time Warner cable, but now they have a special resistor they use on the wire that horks up the cable TV signal.

$%^$!#@ copper wires. I just found out five minutes ago that my physical phone lines don't qualify for dsl, because they're too old and cannot be split between analogue and digital. If I get verizon out to rewire my apartment, God only knows how much it'll cost. Blast it all. Now I'm back to square one.

What a debacle. I signed up for Verizon DSL just now, who said there should be no problems with my line, and would be happy to add DSL service. Anyway, if all goes well I should be connected by September 9th, a day before BF1942 comes out. Just in time (if everything goes according to plan). Now I play the waiting game...
