So I finally picked up my copy of BF1942...

...and I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. My experience with MOHAA's multiplayer code led me to believe that online play was going to suck hardcore with my dialup, but it was very smooth, with only one momentary lagout halfway through my session. (Of course, it could just be Zorro's blazing fast server. ) My online wanderings also led me to expect a bug-ridden half-finished piece of software, but then again, I got that impression from reading EA's support request forum--you don't hear from the people who are running it with no problems over there.

Thanks to Palooka and Faxman for showing me the ropes last night--can't wait to get some more quality gaming time in. Anyone up for a run around 9:00 EDT tonight?

I'll be there. Zorro runs the best BF42 server I've used.

I think I can make it tonight.

It would be nice to get a few more people than 4 though to play. Maybe not open to the public, but how about a special password we could give out to some "friends" to join us every once in awhile.

The server rocks, plain and simple. My pings are consistently in the 50s always. And even when the server is full, everyone's pings are below 100 (with the exception of the dial-up users).

Well, thanks, guys... gonna make a server admin blush or something...

In any case, I have no difficulty with making the password semi-public (which is why I've posted it in public forums twice). The thing I'm trying to avoid more than anything is having an un admined server. I want there to always be at least one Knight on the server that can take care of the trash, and for now, that Knight has to be me. Remote administration for anyone else is really a super-huge PITA... Here's hoping someone mods something...

In other news, I'm working (here a little, there a little) on a BF1942 version of tribesserverstat. I don't think it will be a lot of effort, but currently, the program that I use to probe servers doesn't seem to work too well with BF1942 (buggy at best because it queries the GaySpy port on the server). I'll let you know when I get close to a releasable product...

Sorry I didn't make it last night, guys, I hope you didn't wait around too long. I ended up not getting home from work until almost 8:00, and had a number of things to do around the house. Just no time for games...

Fax, you're going to be checking the boards and e-mail before Sunday, right? Give me a holler so we can figure out what time dinner is tomorrow night.

I was there from 9-10pm and didn't see anyone else. Flew the B17 for a bit. I can see why you need 100 of them to hit a target.

Beast, If I'm not online tonight, I will call you from my gf's in West Chester, so we can cordinate a nearby restaurant. My vote is for John Harvards brew pub. To anyone reading this inane chatter here's something for you to make your reading worthwhile: John Harvards is a modest brew pub chain, primarily on the east coast I believe, with homemade food and fresh brewed beer. Their fall brews are the best, specializing in a great pumpkin beer that is a meal in itself. 4 out of 5 stars. If anyone would like to join us we'll be gathering there around 8pm on route 202, just outside of Wilmington DE on the border of PA and DE. How will you find us? We're the drunken nerds talking about video games while our girlfriends look mortified by our slurred nerdspeak.
