Sierra Releases Tribes 2 Update With Key Content Additions for Free Download
September 25th, 2002
The Tribes 2 Re-Release Update (87.7 MB), released today, adds two original game types, new maps, and updates to address numerous performance issues. The update, a product of three development groups and thousands of beta testers, highlights Tribes 2's open architecture and active online community. The Tribes 2 Re-Release Update is available from 3D Gamers, Euro-TribesPlayers, FileShack.com, and Sierra.
Highlights of the update include Team Rabbit 2 (TR2), a new game type that focuses on acrobatic maneuvers and sports-style action. Another new game type, Tribes 2 Classic, adds increased speed and intensity to the classic Tribes gametypes. 32 new maps, including 10 newly remastered "classics" from the original Tribes, are also included.

The Tribes 2 Re-Release Update will be a required update for all Tribes 2 players effective later this week. A newly remastered jewel-case version of Tribes 2, including all the recent updates, will be released to software stores on or around October 4th.

Yep... huge change for Tribes. Been playing the beta for awhile now. Lots of people love it, lots of people hate it. Tribes losing and gaining players left and right.

The aim of the patch is to makes Tribes2 play a lot more like the original tribes (hence the "Classic" moniker). The jury is still out. I'll be patching and playing some tonight.

It most definitely has the Tribes type feel to it. It's been fun with beta...I like several of the new maps that came out with the beta. But the newbie challenge in pubs is increased again. llama's everywhere now the patch is out.

I played some Classic CTF on a pub last night. I like the feel better than the BETA patch. They must have further tweaked the physics a bit. Also, played some Team Rabbit 2 which is pretty wild. Think combining Tribes and Soccer. Two teams try to "pass" the flag downfield and throw it through a goal to score. Intense action. Only problem I have is that the flag is so dman small it's hard for me to see. THere must be a script/patch out there somewhere to make that sucker larger.

There's a lighting setting in T2 that puts a red glow around the flags, and also around spawning repair packs. Maybe interior lighting map?
