Just Bought BF1942. Advice?

I hadn't even heard of this game, but you guys are nuts about it, so I figured it's a safe bet.

Any advice on how to begin? Is the single player a decent prep for MP? Is the single player entertaining on its own? Are there any tweaks or scripts you recommend?

If you don't have a sound card that supports hardware compression, turn your sound settings down. 11KHz and 24 voices work fine for me.

Depending on your system performance you may want to throttle down your video settings.

Fire short burst with automatic weapons. You may need to lead your target a bit more then you are used to with other FPS.

Other then that, its pretty much up to you in the game. There are so many different roles to fill, you can pretty much take your pick.

I picked the game up this weekend as well. Flying the airplanes is a lot of fun, although it would be even more fun if I wasn't getting 15fps. Time to upgrade again. Damn hog of a game.

My FPS is fine - maybe the latest Detonators are helping. But the airplanes seem totally out of control to me. I'm about to drag the ol' joystick out of the closet and see if it helps.

Are the naval guns any good except against big ships? They seem to have a random factor built in that makes them weak against landing craft.

I've had good luck with naval guns. They certainly outclass all the land based arty.

I've found that even if you don't hit a landing craft, you can occasionally flip one upside down, which traps everyone inside that it doesn't kill outright.

Actually, you can jump in the pilot's seat, open the front gate and get out when that happens...

A lander will sink if you open the door? I didn't know that.

Oh, no, it just allows people that are trapped under the boat to get out...
