    "Tanks" for the memory

    I added an additional 256 meg of memory (for 512 total) today during lunch and tried the game out. It has made a HUGE difference in load times, as well as shuffling around in the menus. HUGE. I cannot undersell this point. HUGE.

    BUY MEMORY.

    1GB here... the difference between 512M and 1024M is probably just as noticeable... I'm ALWAYS the first guy in on map changes regardless of the server. Most times, I spawn and am in a tank/plane before anyone else is even on the other team... Of course, the game restarts when someone eventually does join, but it's cool being the first one in...

    OK, I'm convinced next pay check I have to get 256 of more memory. Now I just have to find a way to sneak it past the accounting department / wife.
    Right now the load times are BRUTAL, with my 256 megs on a 1 gig Athlon.
    I bought a SoundBlaster Audigy Pro last week but have not had a chance to install it yet...have to wait until I'm home alone so I don't catch flak for putting money into the computer again. Do you think the sound card will do much for improving game speed?
    I'm expecting the sound will be 100% better since right now all I'm using is onboard sound which this game seems to have a real problem with.

    I think I'll have 512 more coming in the near future.. 512 alone just isn't enough.. need that 1Gb of 3200 CL2.0

    That's funny... I call my wife the "Appropriations Committee". Sadly, it's just a committee of one... The Audigy works nicely for me. I've actually found that NOT setting HW Acceleration gives you more simultaneous voices with the Audigy. For some reason the game auto-detects only 31 voices with HW Accel on. I can set it to 64 without acceleration, which makes those weird instances of your plane engine sound disappearing, etc. go away... If you're running a VIA board, be sure to install the PCI Latency patch that I posted in here a few threads ago... Ask Bribo how much of a difference it makes...
