    New member of the family...

Well we got a new member to the Husted family today. "Mandrake" was found wondering the neighborhood.

He's a very young little gray/black tiger tabby kitten. Sorry, I don't have a digital camera for pictures. He's spunky and he insists that he is going to be on our leather furniture but my wife insists he isn't. I'll let you know who wins.

Wife wanted to name him "Bailey", I wanted "Download"... we settled on "Mandrake" so she can call him 'Drake. LOL

We've been toying with the idea of getting a pet(s) and have been visiting petfinder.com over the last few weeks.

I'm upstairs brushing me teeth this morning and my wife starts yelling at me to get dressed and get out there and get this little kitten out of the middle of the road. I chased him in my bare feet (Its cold and wet outside!) and finally trapped him with a plate of milk. <G> We walked all around the neighborhood and couldn't find anyone who knew of the cat or anything. We think he was dumped at the corner. =(

Heh My poor little kitten that I saved from the streets ended up costing me $650 in vet bills..... Had a broken leg, ear mites, round worm, tapeworm, covered from head to toe in ringworm, and a slight cold to boot. We got her all fixed up then 3 weeks after we got her I woke up with red dots on my chest... Damn cat had the mange and ended up giving me scabies (sp?) We had to wash everything... It tottaly sucked on top of taking the cat to the vet every 3 days to get medicated/bathed to kill it off.

And how does she pay us back for taking such great care of her..... She claws the wallpaper off the wall in 3 rooms and destroys a 3ft section of carpet (Yah Good kitty)

Soooooo.... we took her and spent 200 more dollars and had her de-clawed and fixed. But over time she has become one of the fam In fact she sits in my lap evertime I am on the pc (I havent killed her yet).

Well 24 hours in our home and he thinks he owns it.

His eyes are very clean and he's used the litter box 3 times so far and nothing looks out of the ordinary there either. I think he may have ear mites though as I see some black spots and he does scratch them every once in awhile, but nothing too badly.

I will be calling the vet on Monday (if they are open) to schedule and appointment to have him examined and start getting him checked up, etc. He WILL get de-clawed as he will be an inside only cat and he will get "fixed" when the time comes. I don't see any flees or any other problems.

The litter box we got him is a little big and he walks over to it, and looks like he is trying to get into it but we have to give him a little hand to help him out. He sure does like digging in the litter though. =)

Until he gets familiar with the house and we are comfortable with him using the litter box, we are keeping him in the kitchen nights (we have a door into our dining area we can shut). The only problem is he has "adopted" the inside of the back of our refrigerator as his 'home' even though we bought him a "Cat Magnet" bed.

He doesn't seem to be a very aggressive cat. He has already stopped attempting to get on the leather furniture and although he is playful, he seems much more interested in attention in general and very affectionate.

I really think he was "dumped" by somebody. He seems to clean to have been a stray outside especially with all the rain we've had this past week. Plus he took to the litter box very quickly. He can't be more than 6 - 8 weeks old though.

It's good he isn't "downloading" on the furniture.

My cat's name is Jasper. He's an overweight male tabby who always wants to be around me. Cutest cat in the world. He loves to lick my ears.

I'm always trying to get Jasper to lose weight, but he has the knack of finding food everywhere. My wife says I must identify with him because I need to lose some weight myself. hehe

Isn't it weird how we will put up with SOOOO much more from an animal than we would another human being. I know that's how I feel sometimes. Is it right?.....I'm not so sure.

I know what you mean, I know my cat wakes me up early when hes hungry, he likes to jump on the table and try to eat my food WHILE I'm eating. If a human did as much as the cat did I prolly would have knocked them out a long time ago.

You wanted to call a cat, "download"? That has to be the oddest thing I've ever heard of.

That is because it required a sense of humor.

    HER name is MANDI.

My dog's name is Jasper. We went to the pound today and met a very nice Chow mix named Alaska, we're thinking of adopting her.

    Aerothorn,

Good luck! It's always great getting a new pet.

We might get Mandi a brother or sister but I want to make sure we take care of her first by getting all her shots done, etc.
