    Bowling for Columbine

Has anyone else seen this movie?

I did last firday and I think it was a very good movie.. Made fun of our society very well, as well as educating the audience about other culutres compared to ours. I highly suggest going to see it. You'll come out feeling imformed, and satisfied that it was a good movie.

Liberal garbage. You're better off going to see Harry Potter. Which is vastly more rooted in reality than anything Michael Moore has produced.

If you are getting "educated" by Michael Moore, then I truly do believe our education system in the United States is in disrepair and has failed you beyond comprehension.

So, Bribo, you've seen the movie? Or are you reviewing it based upon not seeing it?

It gets a 95 percent at Rotten Tomatoes - few movies get such a universally positive review.

It's supposed to be quite good, from what I've heard.

It is easy to dismiss anything Michael Moore produces out of hand simply because some of his past work is such rubbish, like Stupid White Men (stupid title, stupid book), and the guy comes off as an ultra-liberal simpleton with a camera and a shallow world view. However, Bowling for Columbine has garnered much critical acclaim, even from somewhat conservative sources. So, being the open-minded (though thoroughly pro-gun) guy that I am, I would probably see it if it were playing in Reno. I know it would at least earn a chuckle or two.

Speaking of movies, I saw 8 Mile this weekend. I thought I would hate it, but I was pleasantly surprised. It's kind of a Rocky meets Saturday Night Fever meets Boyz 'n the Hood, and while some of it is a bit cliche, it comes off pretty well. I don't know if Eminem is just being himself or actually acting, but he is convincing either way.

I'll admit it.. I'm biased. Nothing Moore has done in the past has been worth a damn IMHO and if this movie is any better, you wouldn't know it from listening to him talk about it.

My post was totally centered on the provoking of the liberally swayed of this forum. I have succeeded.

So what was the message of the movie? That guns are bad?

Actually, Conservatives with their disdain of big government, lean far closer to communism than liberals

Pudster, that was an asinine comment if I've ever read one. Communism is big government to the most extreme degree. Marxism/Leninism, practiced by most, if not all, communist governments in the world today, demands complete government control over business and industry, as well as severe limitations on personal freedom. In China, citizens are not individuals, but faceless cogs in a gigantic machine operated by the government. Conservatives promote the exact opposite. We want the government to keep their noses out of our personal lives and the operation of our businesses, unless our activities therein are harmful to ourselves or society. Thus, many conservatives have libertarian leanings, but we don't go as far as libertarians in promoting complete personal freedom when it comes to drugs, abortion, pedaphilia (which, I might add, is being justified by leftist academics in this country), etc.

Uhh....no Palooka....you better break out your copy of Marx and start reading away, because our educational system has badly failed you. The following is your history lesson of the day, take notes because you obviously need to.

Communism in its purest form does not have any form of organized government. The theory is that everyone lives in their little huts growing potatoes or some other yummy veggies in their little gardens and that they form up in little communes sharing with those around them for vital foods and services to stay alive. The only form of real government would be a postal system for communication purposes. If there is no organization, then there can be no one in power to oppress those below them.

Soviet Russia was a bastardization of Marxism. It was an Oligarchy the same as "Communist" China is. Marx would never had willingly participated in the Soviet system that we know. It is all about oppression and exploitation. Two things that he was trying to defeat.
