My computer sounds like a jet engine...

Hi everybody:

I'm finally going deaf from the roar from my computer. I cracked open the case and found TEN (count 'em!) fans...

I replaced the 80 mm case fans with new ones w/ potentiometers to turn down the rpm and that's helped.

The real culprits are the two small fans on my video card. The bearings are shot and they really whine.

Does anyone have a source for various high-quality fans? They're pretty standard-looking parts to me.

Okay, so I'm repling to my own post, but I got it figured out...

I've replaced all of my case fans with super-quiet adjustable ones and added EVEN MORE!

My theory is that a bunch of big fans running at low rpm will beat the hell out of crappy ones running at full-blast.

As far as my GE4 Ti4600 goes, it was cooled by a couple of half-dollar size fans that whined so loud that no dogs in my neighborhood would come near my place...

I shitcanned the fans on the card and found some sheetmetal screws and put an 80 mm case cooling fan on the thing. I figured if that couldn't cool it, the card deserves to fry...

Final tally: My computer is now so quiet that it's kinda freaking me out. A 2.4G+ machine w/ a GForce 4 and the thing is almost completely silent and running coller than ever before.

Now if I could only do something about the traffic noise outside my window...
