Ok guys i download 3dmark(or something like that) and im getting pathethic results

the first test was around 8000
the other test with kinda different settings are in the 6000 area.

yesterday i bump up a few Mhz (with RivaTuner) my GF3 Ti 200, i dont want to push it but its good.

What else can i tweak appart from the ACPI, what is memory latency?

i now have 512 Mb of DDR Ram but still a 1.6 Ghz CPU.

I will have around $250 to spare this week (ahhh life with out gf, wohoo!!!) so should i invest on:

    Processor: 2.5 is around $250
Video Card: Ti 4600 is around 200-300

BTW my BF1942 experience has been great im getting around 40-60 fps and its all good now.

Is UT3 more demanding or not with the resources then BF1942??? if i buy it would it look good?

    8000 isn't bad at all. I'm in the 2500's.

8000 is right on for the GF3... You'll get more bang for your buck with a video card upgrade than a CPU upgrade, especially if you spend most of your time gaming... A CPU will help there, but not as much as the video card...

Since installing the GeForce 4 TI 4600 I'm getting (average) in the 8500's.
I have a 1.5 GHZ Pentium IV, 512 Meg of memory.

    I am completely untweaked.

    Help.

For those of you running XP pro check out this link it walks you through all the different processes running on your machine and helps you to eliminate the ones you don't need. It has four categories safe (meaning secure), gaming, super tweak and ineternet gateway. I elimated about a dozen not needed processes and my benchmark went up about 150 to 12760. It also shows you the defaults so that you can return to the defaults if you decide to do so at anytime.

Looks like you and I are on the same boat.

Good old tweak i havent done EVER is Defrag my disk.. i will do this today.

For those that have 2+ Ghz CPU when you play BF1942 your utilization is 100%?

I notice when i have BF1942 my CPU util goes to 100% always.
and my Memory Util goes to around 530 Mb.

    Is this normal?

3DMark is mostly a Video Card benchmark isn't?

Mostly, but it LOVES RAM bandwidth and will increase with faster CPUs as well...

The people that make 3Dmark now have a program called PCMark as well...

It's a nice way to compare your general system with someone elses to see if there is something you're doing wrong....

I have Rivatune...so what settings do I change to "tweak" my vid card?
    There's like a million and a half.

Is there a tutorial somewhere? I don't want to spend 4 hours researching this stuff.

I've got like 15 games to play.

Gunny and I both upgraded our machines a few weeks ago.
    41.04 WHQL driver from guru3d.com
I'm getting 12890 on the 3dmarks, Running XP Pro SP1
    BF1942 85+fps
ut2003 80-92fps+ (without AA turned on)
ut2003 70-75fps+ (with quicksync AA turned on)

UT2003 from a graphics standpoint is more demanding, if you have a good amount of ram to into the ut2003.ini file and change the memory from 32 to 128 or higher. This gives a much better phyiscal cache bucket.

BF1942 is a pure RAM hog, I had 256mb DDR at first and it would take up to 20seconds longer to load a map. I had to put another 256mb in and now it's really good.

The P4 2.5Ghz is the best bet to go with for a proc right now.
There are way too many motherboards out there to choose from. Gunny and I both went with the ASUS P4PE and have nothing but awesome things to say about it. Plus the price was rock solid!

Nvidia has there new video card coming out in a few weeks/days so the GF4 TI series I'm sure will drop in price real soon.

That site Gunny mentioned about the tweaks for XP is sweet for those who aren't to firmiliar with messing around with Windows services. Plus other things as well.

Squidly... I prefer a program called "PowerStrip". I think it's much easier to understand and does the job very well. Let me know if you want me to send it along to you.

I wouldn't mind checking it out, Hy. I'm interested in trying to overclock my GF2. (And if I fry it, I've got an excuse to buy a GF4, or one of those new NV30s that are coming out in Feb.

You may not believe this, but when I first started with 3DMark, I was in the 8,000's and with tweaking, got it up to over 10k. Tweaking does pay off.
